Well, I never really though about it in the 2 years I've had my 2010 O/R 6 speed, but I sure have now. There is a decided advantage to owning an Auto, you can drive it with just your right foot.

Now that I have injured the MCL in my left knee, my manual is undrivable. (For how long I'm not sure) Had to have my next door neighbor pull it into the garage for me yesterday.

So........Yes, the auto DOES have it's advantages.:(

Don't forget, auto's also make those cool grinding noises, that scare everyone, when you roll backwards slightly on a hill.

Technically you can drive it (very slowly) with just your right foot.

With the parking brake on, press clutch with right foot...
put truck into 1st then start easing off the clutch until engine revs change
    release parking brake...truck moves forward
To stop using parking brake and press clutch with right foot

I've been able to get up to 4th gear without pressing the gas pedal and just using the clutch

Try it..just make sure theres nothing in front of you when you do it the first few times :D

I don't know what I would do if that ever happened to me. My Truck is an automatic but I hardly drive it because I have an old celica that I daily drive. The Celica is a manual and i absolutely love it. I have so much fun running through the gears in that car. I would be Devistated if I couldn't drive it anymore because it caused me pain.

That's not even funny. I took it to the dealership for the 2nd time because it has been screaming most days. But, when I got there, not a sound. Pissed me off, especially since it was the second time I've been in the last few months. Warranty is going to run out soon, and I'll be doing it myself I guess.

Meanwhile, they think I'm an idiot...

    best wheel bearings around! www.marionbumper2bumper.com
Try doing that on any kind of hill going up. lol.

To the OP, The biggest disadvantage I have had was when wheeling. It makes rock crawls a bit tough. At least until I get a crawl box in the future. lol.

Man that's terrible!! May your recovery be lightening fast.

Driving an automatic, in my opinion, takes a lot of fun out of driving.

See, that's what I don't understand. Driving and fun in the same sentence. Nothing about driving is fun. Not only do I prefer an auto, if I could have a push button that would just drive me wherever I want to go, that's what I would buy.

Good thing the problem wasn't with the right knee. Then you wouldn't be able to drive either......without a stick or lever to operate the gas. May a speedy recovery head your way!

When I had surgery on my left knee about 7 months ago (right before I got the taco) I had to let my uncle drive my manual Audi for about three weeks so I know the feeling. :(
