    Hey Liberator.
What parts other than the frame did they use for the swap?

I just got my 05 back from the dealer. They picked it up from my house and brought it back on friday. Whole frame and rear springs were replaced. also front lower control arms and just about everything else underneath. List was long. All at no cost to me. Mine had excessive rust including holes due to rust. Dealer was very helpful and professional. I had received the letter in the mail just like you. Refused the loaner they had offered as i had no need for it. Good service from Toyota.

I attached couple of pics of the frame on my 05. It was replaced under the recall.

Took mine in for the inspection today. It passed, and they want to spray it with the CRC.

Thing is, I've had it up on my lift and can see where there's significant rust on the middle section of the frame where the two pieces are sandwiched together, as well as the beginning of the holes up by the cats on the left and right side (its already a few layers in, but passed the hammer test).

After reading here and a few other places, I'm pretty apprehensive about having the CRC done. I had an undercoat job done when I bought it (free from the dealership), and it doesn't seem to have helped. I'm also skeptical that they'll do the prep work to remove the existing coat before spraying the CRC all over the place.

    So, that has me wondering:

1)Has anyone had any luck in either convincing them to replace the frame, taking it to another dealer for a second opinion, or contacting Toyota directly?

2)For those that have had the CRC applied, is there anyone that's actually satisfied with the way it turned out (did it dry, did they do a thorough job, etc.)

3)What happens if I simply blow off getting it sprayed by the dealer?

If they're not going to replace the frame, I feel that I can do a better and more thorough job of restoring and coating the frame with better stuff than they can even if it's coming out of my pocket. In the end all I care about is that this truck isn't going to rust out and that it'll last a long time.

Just got it back today. Pretty happy with the results. Didn't have to pay a dime. Also replaced my lower control arms.

Interesting that there are multiple ways the frames are being replaced. My truck was dismantled with the engine kept in the cab by the use of a jig. Others are being removed after the cab is lifted off the frame...

Funny you mention that. I wanted to have them replace the water pump, t stat, idlers, tensioner and belt. I figured they would cut me a deal since they had the engine out. They said they would not pull the engine, left it in the truck. I was wondering if they were full of it but now I guess they were not. They quoted me $600 labor for all. They said they use an engine brace to hold it to the body.

Looks like yours wasnt as bad as mine.(see pics couple of notes above). Mine they also replaced control arms and rear leafs plus an long list of other stuff, all paid for by Toyota. This keeps me still a Toyota person, they do stand behind their product.

Do they clean up the engines prior to re assembly?

If I was brining mine in for a frame swap I'd definitely the engine/engine compartment cleaned and pressure washed.

    - Better for the Tech
    - Looks better when done
    - Easier to inspect when completed.

3-4 weeks quickly has turned to the middle of week 6.

which isn't a bad thing, considering i plan on doing some sort of road trip next week.

downside is instead of going to the dealer every 5 months or so for an oil change, i have to go ever couple of weeks for something. plates expire at the end of the month. uhg

I for one am extremely happy that the CRC is not designed to dry. Rubber compounds that dry eventually crack, allow moisture in behind, trap that moisture and make corrosion even worse. It eventually flakes off and looks like crap. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Any compound that doesn't dry, is oily in texture will work its way into things and provide better protection. Anything that dries is a bandaid. Plus it is impossible to get every square inch, so a product that isn't oil will simply land where it's sprayed. An oil product has mist and can at least leave a fine layer on very hard to reach areas.

For those worried about working on vehicles. Yes you will get your hands dirty but I'd rather go wash my hands and tools after getting the job done quicker and not fighting with seized bolts. To the above poster, saying you won't be able to service your frame? Wire brush or scrapers work well.

Yes dirt does stick to it but it really isn't that bad, I don't have an issue on my truck and I run back roads/trails to go fishing, hunting etc. The underneath of my truck is wet all year from the oil.

As for the overspray, I agree they should be cleaning your windows, handles etc. Having done my own undercoating for years let me tell you it's impossible to avoid. It even gets on the roof and I do it outside. Do you really expect them to tape off the body like they are prepping for a paint job? Common... lol. The smell? That's gonna happen, they are spraying stuff on your vehicle. Mine stinks for a few days too. I usually take it for a ride and it leaves a cloud of smoke behind from the oil burning off.

I have been spraying vehicles myself for years. I have tried numerous products from motor oil, transmission fluid, products such as fluid film but now have settled on a dripless gel like oil undercoating. I do it myself every fall. From the pics it seems like this product is similar. You shouldn't worry about getting this stuff put on. I spray it on everything. Maybe that's just me up north here where putting oil under your vehicle to make it last is common practice.

Glad to see Toyota owning up and actually doing something.

Still waiting on a wiring harness, frame is in. Two weeks ago they tried to tell me Toyota doesn't replace them as part of the recall now. Really tired of all the BS surrounding this recall and the lack of support from Toyotacares helpline. Just fix my truck as promised in the beginning of the recall and let me be on my way. This is my first and last Toyota because of the pitiful way this recall has been handled.

I for one am not upset with Toyota corp. It's the dealer I took mine to scratch my truck up and can't admit they did anything wrong.
