My local truck shop has a set of American Prospect A/T's in 285/75/16. These are blems (minor defect in white letters). I can get them for 500 mounted and balanced. I went to look them up and found nothing...

Also.. Ill be using stock rims, so Ill be ordering spacers. Spacers are on backorder for a month +... they have 1/4" at the shop. Would the 1/4" work until I can get the 1 1/2" spacers?

    Hey Mat...

Before police work I worked at a tire shop for 10 years and learned that tires are something you really do not want to go the cheap route on. I saw the cheaper brands fail many times, for one reason or another, and learned it was better to go with a known and trusted brand even at a little higher expense.

If I remember correct the brand you are asking about is known as the prospector A/T (rather than prospect A/T) and right now there are some issues with their safety. I know of a past re-call by the maker and am not sure of the status at this point. I am adding a link to the re-call information and you may want to check the serial numbers before you buy this set of tires......good luck. (link below)

Yes that was my mistake....I glanced at the recall and saw the month as April and quickly assumed it was April of 09 rather than 2008.

I also remember them as being an average tire however we did not sale that brand. We did have many from the parent company however none specific to American Prospector.

Sorry for the confusion and again good luck with your tires.

As a general comment, tires are not an area in which I would go too cheap. Your family will be riding in your vehicle with you, right? Something to think about.

BTW, I know you're getting a larger size but I paid $504 installed at my local Firestone for my tires (P metric). There are good name brands out there that won't break the bank.
