Doug Thorley Y pipe bomb?

Has anyone used this Y pipe? Does it eliminate rasp? Is it too loud? Notice any gains? Thanks in advance.

I had it, now went back to stock y-pipe with secondary cat delete and like it better and more cost effective.

 

I did the DT pipe solely for clearance. The stock pipe got hung up on rocks every trip off road. I added an ultra quiet Vibrant resonator and it's as quiet as stock.

 

why do people keep calling them secondary cats? theyre not catalytic converters, theyre resonators! try putting your downstream o2 sensor behind one and see what happens.

 

I'm running the URD Y Pipes and they sound sweet. They really open up the TRD exhaust.

 

The emissions sticker basically mentions them as cats. So that the truck can qualify for the Ultra high emissions standards. If you cut them apart though, there is only cat material at the inlet and outlet. Nothing in between. So it essentially both. + or -

 

Because they are catalytic converters.

High flow cats will trip o2 codes too, but they're still cats, not resonators.

Depends on the cat and car. Some do, some don't. But regardless, the secondaries on the Tacoma are converters, not resonators. So that's why so many people here call them cats.

I suggest you install some sort of heat shielding so you don't cook your 4x4 actuator on the transfer-case. The DT Y pipe runs a little to close to it to leave it without a heat barrier in my opinion.

Agree with the above. Do it for clearance, and maybe a change in sound, but you won't see any performance gains.

Looks like you also run the Vibrant . Best money I've spent! (Not really, but definitely well spent)

My pig looks nothing like that. I use my truck offroad so everything is rusted and covered in scrapes.

I wouldn't buy that, but to each their own. I'm sure it's great, but dam expensive.

I bought a roll of lava wrap years ago and had some left over from a project so I used that.

you wet it, install it, clamp it, let it dry, then spray it.

wrap the pipe where it gets close to the plastic actuator on the transfer case. Thats about as specific as one can get.

 

I've had it on there for almost a year. Got it for the clearance only, but I do like the sound too. Haven't noticed any performance/MPG increase.
