I searched but didn't see this issue.

My son and I both have Taomas. Mine is 2010 and his is 2008.

Both of them have a similar "spotting" and overall bad look to the trim around the rear window.

Is this a known issue by Toyota? Is there a recall by chance?

How would you recommend fixing this?

    Thanks!!

Kind of looks like mildew as it appears to be on the cab also. Have you tried washing it?

Mold/Mildew/whatever it is, it also happens to 1st gens, so probably some info on how to get rid of it in the 1st gen section. I've seen a few threads on it.

X2 for Areospace 303. I had been using it for years on my old Taco and never had any rubber degregation. I always reapply on all rubber and plastic trim monthly. It keeps my new Taco looking new.

Mine looks nearly the same and it's been garaged most if it's life...it's frustrating as it looks like mold/mildew but it's just breaking down...

Has anyone found a fix for this? I checked out that 303 but was not sure if they stated it's a preventive measure or if it will clean it off. I've got the same issue on my 2013.

3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
My 2015 was starting to get that way as well. I took blue painters tape and masked the paint and glass and used soap and water and a Scotch Brite pad to scrub it all off. After that put a good coat of 303 on it. Looks like new again. It was time consuming so plenty of cold beer and a radio helps.

As @gearcruncher said, "A good cleaning and some ultraviolet protection covering the seal to protect from further damage." And yes I have to suggest 303 as well.

303 is awesome stuff. I put that chit on just about everything. A couple of days ago my younger brother cleaned one of his closets and gifted me with a 16mm Bolex camera that belonged to our late father. It needed some attention so after cleaning off the dust I treated the leather case and the leather accents on the camera with...
yep, 303. I now have both of his Bolex movie camera and neither one of them looks their age, which i figure to be 70 to 75 years old.

    Here's what I use.
    303.jpg
And here's what it can do.
