    x1 out in the desert, put it through some nasty spots and never had a problem, i think ground clearance is the big issue with stock.

    Just wondering what you where hitting? Certainly the mud flaps will hit on anything but I've done a few trails and only hit my soon to replaced flaps.

    I was tagging the exhaust/crossover, and yes the mud flaps hit everything...

    I feel stock ..but I have a 2 in lift on my truck.. everyone else around here is 3 or higher...

    I can make it through some pretty soft sand in my 2wd. Detroit Truetrac, 10 PSI, and I've stopped in some soft stuff and just pulled right through, and if I can't, I can usually just back right up and try again

    A little a this, a little a that...
    You can go really far in a stock Toyota 4x4. Mine is stock for now. Wheeling stock will make you a better driver and cue you in to any mods you might need in order to do what you like to do.

    I always start by striping off anything unnecessary that hangs down. On my 2nd gen that was mud flaps, 7-pin connector and I rerouted the exhaust crossover pipe. After that, tires are the best thing you can do to improve off-road performance.

    Sooner or later you'll need a lift to keep progressing. But with the short wheelbase of a regular cab, that's even less important.
