Just bought a Mobius Action Cam. I'm going to try and use a lens extension cable to make it as obscured from view as possible.

Just an FYI there are 9 states that are called no-fault states where your own insurance covers the claim even if its not your fault. Those states are

    1. Florida,
    2. Michigan,
    3. New York,
    4. Hawaii,
    5. Kansas,
    6. Massachusetts,
    7. Minnesota,
    8. North Dakota,
    9. Utah.

20+ years as an insurance agent. No-Fault is for your own injuries, not Property Damage. Limits vary from state to state. When I lived in Florida it was $10K. I live in Utah now which is $2K. Once your injuries pass the limit, the threshold is met and you claim against the personal who is legally liable under their Liability limit. If they do not have enough insurance or none at all, you claim under your own Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage, assuming you have it. I carry Increased No-fault(PIP) and 1Mil/2Mil Uninsured Motorists coverage.

I installed the Crimestopper DR-220, it is nice clean install that looks almost OEM and is not likely to attract attention. This camera is 720P, not 1080P like some of the others. I would include a photo, but the truck is still in the shop for repair of this minor accident. Two weeks now, and will not get it back until Wednesday or Thursday at the earliest. I am a little torqued with the body shop right now, as they are the primary reason for the delays.

Checking out blackbox..Drawback?..no built in screen for on the scene instant play back.
Also see what is being recorded, while driving(careful, entertainment for passengers only) and alignment....
Very simple..no real need for P.C.?
Garman, manufactures aircraft instruments .. suppose to be a quality product..

 this thread needs some videos

Your window would be smashed and that stuff would be stolen in a NY second around here. I had some scumbags break into my 97' Ford Exploder a few years ago because they saw my 5 yo GPS cord sticking out from under my passenger seat.

I'm sure it works great but IMO your asking to get robbed with that set up.

I am also looking for something discreet

I take it out when I leave the truck. Looks like a stock truck when I get out. If they are going to break in they were going to do it anyway but they will be breaking into what looks like a stock truck.

    Yeah I understand.

Let me restate that... I would be lying if I said I take it out "every" time I get out. If I'm going to be gone for a while I will take it down and hide it in the truck. If I'm going in for a short time I'll put the window shade up and with the tinted windows you can't see anything on the dash. I'm sure there is a better set up for a dash cam but since I already had 2 GoPro cameras I didn't see the need for another camera. I've since moved the one that was mounted on my rack to the window mount on the back window of the truck facing backward.

I hear ya. In NJ/PA thats not really an option. My home is safe, but the rest of the area is like Madmax territory... I even hid my CB in my center consul and thats only a $45 radio :D

this is the best resource out there for dashcams. just as Biodegradable posted earlier ITT.
    http://dashcamtalk.com/

there are just so many of them and no specific manufacturer. if you have a PC, any of these will work. some dashcams run programs that only work for PC. if you have a mac, you need to consider a dashcam that stores raw video on an SD card so you can just download clips. this impacted my decision for a specific dashcam or i would have bought something a lot smaller.

i'm running the tried and true DOD FL500LHD.

I'm quite pleased with a cam I got off ebay. Records at 1080P with G shock sensors and GPS. The included software ties into Google maps and would be great for tracking your kid or presenting evidence. It records straight to .MOV, so you don't need any special software to view it. I have my videos set for 1 minute intervals.

This is the review that sold me on it. It is lengthy, but you can get the gist of everything in the first few minutes.

Here's a sample video (complete with an idiot driver failing to yield) I took with my actual dash cam. You'll have to go full screen to see the GPS/Speed/Date tags in the upper left.

I've got one mounted on my truck and i've hard wired into the home link system. It comes on automatically and then turns off with the truck. it's great!

That's the next thing I need to do. I'm holding off until I get a rear facing cam. Then I'll hardwire both of them. Eventually, when I get a second battery setup, I plan on using the motion sensor settings on them and see how that works for recording stuff when I'm parked.
