    Please help!

For the record, I've got a Canadian Spec 2013 TRD Sport with 15,000km's on her with the OEM Baja Suspension installed.

That sound is very similar to tapping a wrench on the dust shield for the brakes, anything interfering in that region? But if you're getting that from the ball joints, tightening them won't change anything unless they are loose. If the joint is worn out, it's time to replace them period. Have you tried working the ball joints around to check for any play?

Not sure what could be interferring in that region? It's basically a stock Baja truck.

You could try loading your ball joints with grease and if that dampens the noise you will know they need replacing.

I thought our ball joints were sealed units? How would I load it full of grease if no zerks?

Might be mistaken, having a hard time associating the images in my head with the two jeeps I've owned and the two Toyotas. With no zerks you're back at trying to shake, or work them around with a prybar to check for play.

I have a hard time believing it's the actual ball joint. It's stock and only has 9,300miles on her!

Could it have something to do with the top plate?

    Or maybe the actual spring?

So you tried working the ball joint to check for play or you just believe that's not it? With that few miles have you tried the dealership? Unless the spring came unseated which is near impossible with struts shouldn't be the spring. Top plate? Not seeing that on your diagram you posted. Should need to tighten your shocks either. Just for kicks have you tried rotating your tires?

What did this end up being? I have something similar when entering my garage at a slow speed where concrete had dip leaving a 3in bump or so. Otherwise I do not typically hear it, strange.

Oddly enough it was every once in awhile previously then I got new tires and alignment and it got worse.

Not sure if this is at all relevant, but my 09 RAV-4 developed a clunk in the front end. Turned out it was a bushing on the top of the strut tower had worn and the strut was moving just enough to let it make a noise...

I have a 2017 trd or and had a similar problem, metallic sound when hitting bumps and turning right. Seemed like it was coming from the passenger side. It ended up being the body cab mounts which were covered under warranty
