I just purchased this 2009 TRD Sport and something got past my initial inspection at the car lot. I was under it today giving it a more thorough examination when I noticed these pry marks against the oil pan. The only thing I can imagine is the previous owner, for whatever reason, had the motor out and these marks show their attempt at lining up the mounts as she went back in.

Nothing about this showed up on the carfax of course and the seller I'm assuming, knew nothing about this. Could it have been a motor swap and/or warranty issue and is there a way to track all it's trips to the original dealership?

Anything is possible. Have you tried running the casting #'s from the block?

Its possible that their was a slight leak in the seal (no big deal) and from the first picture it appears that it either had a leak at one point and was never cleaned or it is currently leaking. What I dont understand is why those bolts are so rusted.... Im thinking that they tried to replace the seal on the pan and probably couldnt get the bolts off. So decided to leave it.

If it makes you feel better about it, on your next oil change go to the dealer and buy a new gasket and after draining the oil just drop the pan and replace the gasket with a fresh one to seal things up. Id also put new stainless steel hardware on there and replace those nasty looking bolts.

I suspect it has a oil leak and the gasket was replaced.

If you guys could see this in person you would agree these marks weren't about replacing an oil pan gasket. It's obvious this area's proximity to the cross member was the natural choice for prying the engine forward.

Boone, where are those casting numbers typically?

I would be careful installing stainless steel bolts into aluminum. Galvanic corrosion is a real bitch! Esp if they salt the roads. If you do go with stainless use one of these Stainless Types 302, 303, 304 and 305 and lots of antiseize compound.

I have an 09 and my rear main seal starting leaking (apparently pretty common) and the dealer had to completely drop my tranny to fix it. I wouldnt worry too much

    this

and the oil pan just doesnt come off with the bolts undone. u have to pry the livin shit out of it get the lower pan off. and there is no gasket. its uses sealant. like Ultra Gray permatex type sealant. this holds the pan on there pretty damn good.
