So I've been thinking a about future mods for the taco. Three things came into mind:

    1) front bumper (all-pro or something similar)
    2) softopper
    3) 3" lift

I've just been thinking, if I have no plans to do any serious off-roading, or intense trails, when would having a lift come in handy? I just don't want to put money into my truck if it means nothing.

The softopper I can get some use out of with camping or carrying large items. And a front bumper I imagine could be useful incase of hitting a deer or rear-ending someone by accident to protect the rest of the vehicle.

But I can't think of a realistic reason why a lift would really help me. Why spend the money?

if not wheeling..looks.. and if your doing it for looks you dont need to invest alot into it...i will say alot of people put a better front spring and strut in front with having a heavier bumper

If you don't off-road, then I would say no.

It's true I've seen it done.

I agree if you are putting on a heavy bumper you may want to at least look at some new coils up front. Old Man Emu's perhaps.

Not so much that I want a lift, as much as it's something I thought about since it's so common.

And thanks for the tip, didn't think about the weight of a heavier bumper. For now my taco is gonna be stock until I know for sure these are things that I really want to put the money into.

You don't even need a lift to off road you can do many trails without it. Getting big lift and big tires will put you at a disadvantage if you don't re gear upgrade drives haft among other things. Leave it stock and wheel. Then get a lift if you think you need it.

    Simple enough :p

I think I'll stick to stock parts for the time being, but the softopper is something I'll definitely go for.

I will honestly say though if you do one mod you will never stop. Lets just say you get a bumper, oh damn your front end is now sagging. So lift it to fix it damn your tires are too small now. Get Bigger tires and it doesnt stop there then it turns to performance mods to turn them big shoes. and its all down hill from there or uphill depends on how you look at it.

I agree 100%. Why wait to put on newer, safer, more capable tires. I got rid of my stock tires at about 700 kilometres. My new ones handle so much better, and will likely last me 7 years so I'm glad I didn't take the 2 years to mile-out the stock garbage that came with the truck.

This x's 2. I put 25k miles on the stock rugged trails then got 265/75/16 duratracs. It made a huge difference, even did some light trails in Moab with no lift. The tires, snugtop, and weathertechs have been the best "bang for my buck" mods. Also tint.
