sup guys i dontk now if this was ever mentioned on TW, but i went to 4wheel in my local area and asked about bilstein lift pricing 779 with install but they said i dont need a upper control and they will put a block in the rear is this a good way to do it or do i need a UCA they said the 5100 will put it up at 2.5" to 3" and also some sites say if i have a rear TSB what does that mean sorry again if this was mention im still a newb but even when i searched in the TW forums didnt find anything about it. i know that some people put UCAs and some here dont also this is gonna be a just driving back and forth to work and probably freeway etc but very lil off road and do i need a different jack if my tire goes out??? thanks guys

If you can afford it I would opt to get to Light Racing UCA's as you will be pretty close to needing them. 2.5" is the max you can go with factory uca's, but it will not drive quit as well or they might have trouble getting you aligned correctly. It's different on each truck. As far as the blocks in the rear that's not a good way to go. Get an AAL if you are tight on money or do it right and get a full leaf pack to increase your height in the rear. I had blocks and you will more than likely get axle wrap/vibs and the ride sucks and your leafs over time will sag/loose the U shape. I did very little off roading and wouldn't recommend a block. Depending on the overall height of the lift and tire size your factory jack probably want work unless you keep a 4x4 or something in the truck to sit it on. Go with a 48" high jack or 60" if you plan on lifting it more in the future.

Alright. I'm going to try and help. Out of the whole paragraph, I saw one period haha

    1) $799 is high. I say you buy the bilstein and install it yourself.
    2) Don't put a block in the rear, go for an AAL.
    3) Do you need UCA? Well how high are you going? 2.5 is a hit or miss here. Like you said, some needs it, some don't.
    4) TSB means technical service bulletin. It's a bulletin about a particular problem or repair that has occurred on a large number of vehicles. They are kind of like recalls BUT they are not covered by the manufacturer unless you still have warranty. They are not classified as a recall because the problem is not life threatening.
    5) TSB AAL- is new 4 leaf packs that toyota puts on if you complain about the payload or saggyness of the factory 3 leaf packs.
    6) I lifted mine about two inches and the factory jack was not enough. I have four foot long 2x4s in my truck for this problem.

    LOL

I didn't have UCAs when I bought my truck lifted at 3". I later switched to ext travel coilovers and then got them. 5100's won't allow the extra travel so you won't need them. They CAN help with alignment but again I never had any issues. Get the 5100's but don't go to 3" lift as that leaves 1" of down travel and the ride will be harsh. Keep the lift lower.

Does that give the same lift as an AAL if I were to buy it from say... Toytech?

Not quite. When it settles, you will get around 3/4-1" over stock.

The smallest AAL will lift the rear 1.5". I don't think they make 1" lift AAL

"Need" is a word thrown around pretty often. You don't "need" them, but lifting over 2" will leave less than 1.5* caster. Only way people get the alignment "In Spec" without new UCA's, is to jack the Camber to unacceptable levels, and this leaves someone with about 1.3* Caster. Lifting alters the factory geometry, which only has enough Caster built into it to allow for 2.2* Caster, at best........STOCK. If your going to lift the truck ober 2", do it right. You didn't compromise when buying a Tacoma, which is the most expensive vehicle in its segment, so I recommend people not cheaping out when they lift. The UCA's and alignment have a direct impact on drivability/handling. Don't ignore them.
