I've tried searching around but I'm not too sure what to search for specifically so I figured I'd ask.

I have a 2009 TRD double cab and I want to try to explain what's been going on with the engine. Kind of hard to explain it but I'll give it a shot.

This problem only occurs when I am driving slow in a neighborhood with a few stop signs. Usually on my way home. I'm usually doing about 15-20 mph and when I stop at the stop sign and then take off it revs higher then it should (at least I think so) and then the rpms will drop back down to normal. Happens pretty often, but not all the time.
Its been happening since I got the truck about a year ago and nothing is being harmed but it's always concerned me and I was wondering if anyone knew why or has the same thing happening.

Might have to get the Trans recalibrated. Get a better shift point

Is it an automatic? How does the trans fluid look and smell? Is it full? Sounds like maybe a stall (torque) converter issue.

I agree with the guys here as well . By your explanation , it sounds like your transmission fluid is low . In most cases you should notice the issue happening more when turning tight corners or going uphill .
Start by making sure your transmission fluid is topped up
There is a procedure to check it listed in this post http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-transmission-low-fluid-directly-factory.html

    Then also read here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...hift-kit-shift-recalibration-kit-2nd-gen.html

If you do have a problem with the transmission , these two posts should help you clarify the problem .

We don't really have any uphill areas around here but I've never really noticed a problem on tight corners either, but I'll try to pay more attention to it today and then check up on it later when I have time.

Thanks for the helps guys I'll try to keep yall posted if I can!

Is the truck moving forward under full power when you see the rpms climb, or is the tranny slipping and you have little forward momentum?

If it's slipping, like mentioned, get the fluid checked first. If that's not it, probably time to take it in to get looked at.

If it's just holding 1st gear too long, then first thing to check is if the tranny has had the updated flash done, as also mentioned. This flash was a TSB and was being done under warranty, not sure about now. I know my 09 needed this flash to act decent during 1st/2nd gear changes. This could also be fluid level though.

Id agree with the guy who said its a programming thing. Mine used to do that but it went away. Did it when it was brand new.It doesn't do it anymore now that its learned my driving.

Mine has the same symptoms, especially going uphill. I had it into the dealership, and he said everything was fine. I am thoroughly convinced that the guy who did the work is missing a chromosome or two... He said he checked the level, but I am planning on taking it elsewhere to have it checked.

Did you ever get the tranny shift point TSB done or the brake recall done ?

Thanks for all the advice. I'm not sure if it's ever had the brake recall done or the shift point done. Bought the truck second hand from a friend. It doesn't really have the problem on tight corners it's just at stop signs

The tranny TSB was a stand alone TSB to correct the lagging shift from 1st to 2nd at a rolling stop , exactly as you describe it , I had it done on my '09

The software correction is parcelled with the brake override software now so if you take it in to get the pedal chop / brake override recall work done that should solve your problem

What year ranges did that tranny TSB cover and what was the TSB #?

Thanks. I've noticed the 1st/2nd lag as described on my 05. Taking it in for transmission service @ dealership Friday. Could just be the computer getting confused because my wife and I alternate driving the truck and we do not drive alike.

ok cool so i just ask them about the recall on the brakes and they should fix it right? do i need to mention anything about the transmission? i dont want them messing with anything that doesnt necessarily need to be messed with.

what about this TSB, how do i get that fixed?

The '09 TSB is obsolete now , the software update is part of the brake override software they will install when the do the pedal chop recall if you get it done
