I currently don't have a pickup but am looking at getting one and I'm trying to decide which one to get. I like the size and reliability of the Tacoma. However, I have two small kids and I'm wondering if the double cab has enough room for a family, especially on longer drives? Does anyone have experience with this?

My youngest are 10 and 12 and have no issues sitting in the back of my DC.

How much gear are you hauling on these longer drives?

Works great for me, my wife, small dog and a toddler in a front-facing car seat. I'm only 5'6" and the back seat is roomy for me.

I can't wait till my boys are out of car seats. The double cab will be perfect. Its fine with front facing car seats, rear facing gets a bit tight. I have one front and one rear currently. The rear facing makes the passenger seat tight. Taking the headrests off helps by allowing the front facing to move back further though. Check out a Pilot as well if you are torn. Its a bit more comfy, but I lick the pickup personally, but my wifey thinks its too bouncy for her, ha

    Interesting.

OP, Double Cab is the way to go w/ a fam. Bigger question is do you need a short bed or long bed (or a 4Runner if you don't need a bed).

I have 3 kids, 14, 10 and 7 and they all fit perfectly in the back of my double cab. They actually love to ride in my truck, and never complain on trips.

That's all good advice, thanks. I think I would get a long box and interestingly we already have a Pilot if we need it.

Get the pickup then for sure! I'm in the same boat. Wife has the pilot, I have the DCLB. Its perfect. My kids will definitely prefer the truck once they get older.
