    Anyone else get this call?

I thought the 2nd gens weren't eligible... Anyway they said that they would inspect the truck and see whether or not it was eligible... They said specific parts of the frame had to be rusted through in order for replacement.

Anyone know where those areas are?

So glad I don't live in an area where this could be an issue.... Oh hey look its 75* and sunny... Just like the other 95% of the year.

    Interesting that they called you.

The woman has made over 250 calls to tacoma owners that DAY alone. She said that I by far had the best reaction. I legit jumped for joy.....

However if you look at my previous thread with the rust issue I grinded most of the rust off and painted it black...

Looks decent but I'm wondering what the areas they are looking for specifically that would call for a replacement.

Anyone else get their 2nd gen frame recall?

please let us know what areas on the frame they are looking for, mine has alot of rust mainly in the front, on the drivers side where the swaybar bracket is, is really bad. from what is see across the whole frame most of the rust originated from welded joints, the black paint/coating whatever that they put starts to crack and flake and then it spread from there like cancer.

I live in Hawaii, and bought my truck new. Live about 40 miles from the ocean,
started finding pieces of my truck laying in the street. Took it to the dealer, who said it wasn't safe to drive, 130k miles on it.
I'll hear tomorrow if they will do anything.

It really shouldn't be limited to "salt" areas. I live in Alabama almost on the Tennessee line, but on a mountain top. Having the roads salted/sanded several times a year is not unusual at all. (I've also lived in the CO mountains in the winter, so I know what constant salt is like.) No car washes at all in this area have under-body sprays. If it's a problem, then it's a problem everywhere...

Yep I agree, if it's a problem in one state it's a problem everywhere. I'm by the beach in CA and if I don't sand and touch up a few times a year I'd have the same issue. Is it that hard for Toyota to use a frame that won't rust through? I'd be denied anyway since my frame has been boxed for LT but I'd take a free undercoating once a year!

It really has nothing to do with salt. The salt issue is an easy out for Toyota, its not their fault that salted roads are rusting their frames.
Think about how many people, average jane's and joe's who wouldn't even think to crawl under their trucks to inspect their frames for failure, driving around thinking they own a solid truck, when in fact they are just driving on borrowed time. Sadly, it will take something like a fatality before they really address this issue. Hows that for a "brand" that built its reputation on "dependability" and "durability".

nice to see them calling people. i think the recall is for ’05 ’06 and maybe some ’07???? i have read they changed where they got the frames in ’07. no rust at all on my ’07 and it has been around salty roads and even the beach. i do try and wash the frames once a month or so.

this. salty roads or really salty air(like around beaches or HI that in the middle of the ocean. Also most place that have lots of salted roads or air have higher humidity more often.

just like how places like AZ/NM/NV and maybe so cal don’t have stuff rust when it’s just sitting out side, like it dose other places. yeah they get rain and all but USUALLY are dryer than other places. The salty roads and air along with over all higher humidity is breading grounds for stuff rusting fast.

Why is it when they were made overseas less problems and now that they are made here in the states all kinds of problems. Are they making them cheaper because of the higher wages here in the US to make up the difference.

They should make them in Canada they'd probably have less issues and would at least use proper steel

What about areas by the beach? I have to sand mine once or twice a year. Seams like it should be a nation wide issue.
