Throttle response hesitation.

I'm getting an intermittent hesitation. Seems to happen mostly at speed when I try to gain more speed without dropping to a lower gear. Doesn't happen when I am hard on the gas. Sometimes it is just a slight flutter and sometimes it is almost a stumble. Took it to the shop and mechanic said he couldn't get it to hesitate at all. No check engine light, no codes, no misfires. Any ideas?

 

Is this with your avatar "in the car" ?

 

When was your last tune up ? spark plugs , air filter , etc
Have you cleaned the throttle body ? mass air flow sensor ? idle air control ?
whats the mileage ?

 

I did plugs and air filter at 60k, I'm just over 100k now Haven't cleaned anything. I'm okay at R/R, but not so good at diagnosing.

 

The throttle body and mass air flow cleaning would be a good place to start .Its cheap and easy to do . It will eliminate possible throttle issues . Find some throttle body cleaner and spray away . There are a few how to,s on TW , just do a search .
If a mechanic already test drove the truck , I am assuming you have no electronic codes present . Did he scan the truck ? Disconnect battery after cleaning

I took the MAF sensor out and cleaned it (although it looked very clean) and took throttle body off and cleaned it real good (was quite dirty). Still hesitating. Next?

Saturday bump

 

First check the spark plugs. Then check the throttle position sensor.....

 

I noticed a huge reduction in hesitation just by upgrading to mid grade fuel.

 

I'll pull the plugs and give them a look. Would a bad TPS throw a code? I have no CEL, codes or misfires.

 

I have a similar problem and I've changed the plugs, cleaned the maf, throttle body and all fluids. I wonder if it could be the throttle position sensor.

 

I would think it should throw a code, but sometimes that doesn't happen. It depends on the severity of the problem.

 

Did y'all figure out this problem? Mine is doing the same thing no codes I only have 58000 on my 06 and it is pissing me off

 

I have a 2006 TRD sport, same problem. Just cleaned the MAF, Throttle body. and disconnected battery to wipe out ECU. I'm trying to find info on adjusting or buying new Throttle position sensor.

 

All the information you need is here , but you should be getting a code if your engine runs that poorly . With a real scanner or volt meter , you can watch the parameters on the TPS voltage

For you guys with the automatic transmission , are you sure you are " NOT " feeling a torque converter problem ? Try tapping the brake . There is a procedure listed here

I bought a new accelerator/TPS and one of the URD out of tank fuel pumps/filters. about $400 all in. Then discovered my break lights on in the parking lot of HomeDepot.......#$%^&*()*&^*^%%%%$$*%!!!!!!!!!
freeking 30 sec. fix and I had already ordered the parts!

I will wait a few weeks to make sure the problem is fixed. I'll still install the URD because I like to change my fuel filters more than once a lifetime.
