First off...I'm a dumbass and obviously cannot drive. I backed into a mailbox and dented my passenger's side bedside panel. Luckily it didn't scratch the paint. I got a quote from a paintless dent repair shop for $150.00 and they said it wouldn't be perfect because of the crease in the metal. 2 questions...1: do you think paintless dent repair can get this most of the way out and 2: am I dumb for thinking about paying 150 for something that may not even look that much better?

    Thanks

I'd leave it personally. It's hardly noticeable. I've got a nice big 10 inch long one on my passenger access door that I'm gonna try and pop out soon. Some asshole decided to open his door with the force of a 1000 retards I guess. Bought and installed sliders so they'd fuck their door up rather than mine next time

Check around and see if you can get it cheaper. There is a guy that I shot archery with does it somewhere in Maryland. I haven't talked to him this year. Might see him at the end of the month. I needed one done last year. They also wanted $150.00. He said it was a $75.00 job and wouldn't take long. Shop around. It is in a bad spot.

I'd get other opinions from other painless dent places -- other places may be more experienced and able to do a better job. I know that if it were my truck (which is relatively new, a 2013) that dent would drive me nuts. I'd get it fixed.

The good thing is that it's not scratched so there's no rust worries; you can take your time in getting it done. If you're ever up in Montgomery County I can recommend a paintless dent guy that did an amazing job on my last car.

Subd - would be curious of any DIY or inexpensive options.

I had an errant shopping cart tag me in the same spot, just a little lower. I was just gonna live with it until I either get an All Pro rear plate bumper with side skirts (which will cover it), or high-clearance bumper.

Wait till you get a couple more then do them all at once. Much cheaper. I have 1 door ding but going to wait for another before I dish out the $$. I dropped a bike that was hanging in the garage onto the hood of my wife's T4R. Hood was chipped and dented. PDR guy fixed dent, the chip I can fix. Dent not so much. PDR guys can do some great work.

Wow, that could work! It almost looked like the paint was bubbling there towards the end tho?

I've seen some pretty amazing work done by the paintless method. I've also seen some just as amazing repairs done on cars that needed minor paint work.

I'd go to a car dealership and ask their service people who they use when they find a flaw in the paint of a new car. These guys do amazing work. Usually, they have someone who comes to the dealership a coule of times per week to do these type of repairs.

It's not that noticeable but it bothers me...I've only made 2 payments on the truck and I've already torn it up. I'm down in Southern MD but I go all over the area for work...I don't mind traveling to find a decent guy. I'll get a few more estimates down here and ask the dealership where I bought it from who they use.

I had it done on my Camry, similar sized dent, for $85. Guy comes to the dealership twice a week to do them in the back lot. He used his skills and tools to massage the dent out and then buffed it so it looked like new. I was very happy with the results, you can't even tell there was an issue.

Thats a little steep for the size of that dent, i had one that size pulled for 60$ish and you wouldnt know its there without some serious inspection.

I had a good 8-10" dent on the door that cost me 200$ to get removed and you cant tell its got issues without getting on yo knees and inspecting it

Whoa I have to try this. I was also a dumbass while backing up with my utility trailer. Turned too much and scratched the rear passenger side bed. Got most of it out using one of those suction cup dent puller but still a couple of small ones won't come out.

Thanks for the link to the vid.

Your dent doesn't look bad at all. An experienced paintless guy should be able to fix that no problem. I had a much deeper dent in my door from some ass opening their car door into mine and the guy I went to fixed it so well you couldn't even tell where it was. It was a while ago so I don't remember what he charged but I'm pretty sure it was less than $100.

One TW member-I don't remember the thread or I would link you- had a child climb on his truck and dent the roof. He contemplated the same thing but in the end used some sort of big $20 dollar dent remover tool-some sort of pump handle thing- and it looked like new. Anyone got input on that?

PDR works great, that being said I had like 4-5 door dings done for $200, had the price knocked down because one of them was like your situation where he said the crease in the metal would be noticeable when pulled, its not even really noticeable unless youre at the right angle or have your face against the truck looking down.

I wonder if that would work on my car. Probably not since the metal is 74 years old and much thicker.
