My 2009 regular cab's brake feel is good, hard pedal, no squish. The ABS is less than optimal under some conditions, I want to do the mod to shut it off. Any suggestions on which thread to look at?

A brake bleeding hose from NAPA (hose with a one way valve) make one person bleeding possible at a reasonable price.

Weird, get your Outback looked at. My wife drives a 2013 Outback Limited SAP, 2.5i, we also previously had a 2011 Subaru Outback, both brake better than both of my 2010 V6 Tacoma & my 2014 2.7 Tacoma. Just saying. Will have to say the brake feel on my 2014 is 10x's better though than my 2010 V6 (Not sure if it's because the V6 truck is heavier etc..??) but even with just 57K miles and 30% left on the pads, seems like it should still feel good.

Jezuz, to the OP, you must not have had a 1st Gen. The 2nd Gen brakes on my truck make the 1st gen I used to own seem like it never even came with brakes.

On the first gen they were optional thats why the truck is made out of more metal than plastic

I'm wondering too what the big difference is. My brakes are great. I also don't have the hydraulic booster POS. Just the regular old fashioned vacuum booster.

I think the Hydraulic Booster with VSC is the issue.

Interesting, if the brakes are so shitty how did they get the highest brake rating in it's class?

Yeah my rear brakes squeak when I've slowed down and almost come to a complete stop. My truck has just under 40000 mi. so I'll probably just check out the shoes and replace them with another brand other than stock

I really like the clunk coming from the rear drums when I let my foot off the brake at a stop light.
    1940's jeep technology there.

This is my problem. Buddy of mine that drives a Vette was driving it the other day and had a hell of a time getting used to how sensitive they are. Its strange we have both extremes on the same freaking trucks.

my brakes are fine and I routinely carry 500 pounds of crap in the bed. The bottom line is they work for me.

My new least favorite thing is taking a right hand corner at what I think is a safe speed and my dash beeps and my engine cuts out making my steering and brakes very difficult to operate. I think my truck is trying to kill me sometimes. This is unsafe. It only happens on RH corners. Yes it's lifted. Yes I have big tires. But come on, I am no ware close to tipping.

You have altered the geometry of your truck. Your truck doesn't know that you've done that. It is trying to compensate for that modification. It has nothing to do whether you think you are close to tipping over, your truck thinks it is.

There are many, many, threads on this very subject.
