Sounds like a design flaw to me. Maybe the owners should hammer on the dealers to get them fixed. Be nice to keep your stuff from flopping around inside.

I have been waiting for this day. I have been wanting to post pics of what I built. I have an ARE Overland. I built supports for the shell which also act a mounting points for Hi lift shovels exc. the dealer I bought the shell from told the shell can't support tent, people and gear. Since I already bought it I decided to fix the issue. This is what I did. It gives good points to tie stuff down too.

I also have the Z seriers.
This is just the nature of the ARE Z series cap. It was made to be a tight fit all the way around.
I was able to get mine in with a little wiggling.

More info on the supports. I have wondered how my SnugTop would handle the weight of an RTT.

My tie downs work with my topper.

I still love my CX. The fit and finish is awesome. I'd buy this cap again in a second even without the Toyota bed rail tie downs not fitting

Mine is fine. Maybe a gasket between the cap and bed will remedy your problem.

Ok, little more info and pics. This was my first major project of bending metal pipe. So there are some flaws but it works great. All I did was weld tabs for the roof and buy longer bolts. I am sure if you wanted to use aluminum to increase shell strength and add points to mount stuff that would work. I used some cheap rubberized undercarriage coating, mistake. I need to repaint them. I did not permenently mount the rails to the shell. Possible if you want. I used the clamps that hold the shell on to hold the rails in their positions. Let me know if you guys want more info.

@MagnumTaco: Damn. That's a great idea! Also serves as somewhat of a roll cage if you transport a dog in the bed.

Strange that yor dealer said the shell cant support the tent. I emailed ARE and ARE told me that the traveling weight is 150lbs. ( a RRT) and static wieght is 800lbs. ( tent opened with 3 full size people in it.)

I have a 2013 DCSB OR with ARE CX and have no issues. You need to loosen the locking nut on the tie downs to get them to fit in the rail.
