Is it actually a vibration that shakes the truck and steering wheel or is it more of a noise that you can hear and possibly feel in the floor boards?

If you thinks its the tires I would swap the front and rears to see if the problem goes away.

Do you know someone with a tacoma, FJ, 4runner etc that would let you swap their wheels on for a test drive?

I bought 4 new tires from a local tire store - and had a similar issue. Turned out to be two of the tires were out of round. When those tires were replaced and re balanced it was fine ....

Also, many years ago I had a problem on an old station wagon (that I eventually found that it had bad bearings in the front Drums) It had a similar condition. Sears put the car on a lift just off the floor and used a "TPD" (Tire problem detector) - basically its a motor with a wheel on the end of the motor shaft. The machine's wheel is put into contact with the tire and turned on. This makes the tire spin up to highway speed. On my bad tires the whole vehicle shaked .... Although the 2 front tires (which I had had for years) were still in good shape and re balanced, they were out of round.

I had the same issue with I first put on my rims. Just took it back and the tires were not balanced correctly. Easy fix.
