LR UCA install issue

There are two inner washers that need to go on the UCA's. Problem is once you put the washer on one side (inner) then try the other there is no room. It took us like 4 hrs trying to figure out how to pry the damn control arm enough to squeeze it in. Is the washer necessary on both inners (its the small washers)? I am about to knock out the driver side today so any words of advice would be awesome!! Thanks

 

Small washers???
Should just be a total of 4 big washers, two for each side.

Oh and the washers go on the outside and not on the inside which would explain your issue.

^^^^ Yep, washers go on the outside, not the inside. Just did mine this past weekend.

 

If you're talking about the bushing wear washers, they are a bitch to get into place but will fit. When installing my Icon UCAs, I found that swearing at it a lot finally did the trick as one member suggested to me.

Are these necessary to have as pictured above?? could I maybe put a smaller washer than the ones they provided so its not so damn tight?

I'd put the ones that came with it in. They will fit it's just tight. Wiggle the UCA up and down to get them in there. Have the bolt in there to hold one side as you work it in then work the other side in.

 

Damn I wanted the easy answer and it was a bitch getting the bolt lined up with those two washers and the bushing. Guess Ill be doing a lot of swearing again this afternoon here is a peak at the install.

 

11 hrs of labor front driver side left for today. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as the passenger did.

 

Did you buy used arms? Those instructions are old. The purpose of the small washers is to lengthen the sleeve possibly due to binding because of the bushings being too thick. SPC (Light Racing) made a couple fixes back in the day and now they just use the 4 big washers.

I bring this up because it’s possible you have mixed match parts, perhaps maybe newer sleeves and bushings but the old hardware. It may be a good idea to contact SPC to see what they can do as they changed the design.

Personally if putting the arms on was as much as a pain in the ass as you described, I would hold off altogether and make sure everything is correct. If they are too tight when you torque everything down this will impact quality of ride as well as handling.

 

I bought them from a member off here and they included the bag with the small washers and instructions as well as the large washers. Based off the instructions I assumed they all were needed. Damnit!! What the hell.... Here is a pic of the LR UCA on the right is this the new or old version and if so what washers do I use????

 

THIS!!! If you install them with all 4 washers they don't allow the bushings to flex and have caused the arms to break! SPC has an update kit available for free (basically just new collars and 2 big washer's per arm). Give them a call

 

Now that I think about it mine had the big washers.

 

Yeah these are the new arms per SPC and I don't need the small washers. Thank god one side I want have to deal with those, but will have to take apart the other, but should be much easier to fit

 

So its ok to have a slight gap on the inside where the tube is?

 

Aint that the damn truth nothing I do is simple and easy the first time. Question though is it ok to have some room washer thickness between the tube on the truck and bushing on the arm?

 

Yes, once all is in place torque the long bolt down to spec and everything should be pulled in nice and tight.

Looks like the whole kit is old the metal sleeves too spc said they are slightly longer than the bushing and mine aren't so they are shipping me new ones so I will have to take it all apart again in a week or so
