Mine is in the body shop because of an accident. I was given a 2013 DC V6 4x4 as a rental so I was looking forward to it.

However the 2013 seem doesn't seem to feel as powerful and the throttle response doesn't seem as good as my 2006. And transmission seems to shift sort of sluggish. It only has 20k miles.

I do love the 2013 steering wheel. It feels more comfortable and looks a lot better. And the steering feels tighter than mine which I like. Even when mine had stock suspension and tires the steering still didn't feel as tight.

The weird thing is the seat seems to be higher in the 2013.

hmm, should be the same engine and transmission. The power and throttle response feel might be due to the extra electronic controls on the 2013.

If you hold in your "VSC Off" switch for 5 seconds, it should turn off everything (VSC & TRAC) and feel like a regular old Toyota truck.

I know the engine and trans are the same. But I can tell I have to rev higher in order get the same acceleration. I figured it was in the programing. The later models also got a smog pump so maybe that is another factor.

Other thing I like about the 2013 is the backup camera. I'm going to have to install one when I get mine back.

I know it's a given but the SR5 suspension feels so mushy compared to the Icon suspension:D.

I felt a little difference in power between my 2006 DS/SB and my 2013 DC/LB but I assumed that it was because of the extra weight of the bed and longer frame.

As far as seats, 2006 has a narrow lower seat than 2007+, supposedly to accommodate our fat American asses. My 2013 has different rear headrests and they tilt.

Why does the 2013 key FOB have a trunk button?

WTH? You got the wrong remote, none of my 3 Tacomas had a remote like that. That's a Camry remote.

I know they widened the seats starting 2007. But I didn't expect them to make it higher. I'm like 5'11" and my 2006 was perfect in head room for me. But with the 2013 it feels like my head is almost touching the roof and the rear view mirror is blocking some visibility.

    'Twas but a joke.
^^^^ This. I'm assuming it works with the truck? Possibly just a one size fits all Fob programmed by the dealer.

Being a rental, it's probable seen many different driving styles. The computer learns how you drive over time and adjusts the engine and transmission. If you disconnect the battery and turn on the ignition, then turn off the ignition and reconnect the battery - this will reset the computer. May want to check the air filter too - it's probably original seeing as its a rental.

I'm not sure about the seats - the TRD and SR5 are not the same.

Common problem from the factory I've heard. Every once in a while when I hit mine it drops the spare tire.

Seats are definitely higher. I had a '05 before and now have a '14. I miss the center counsel and the door's arm rest being the right height compared to the seat. For me, on the later 2nd gens, it's hard to find a comfortable place to put my left arm (arm rest too low and window sill too high).

Can't speak for the power though. The '05 was a 6 speed, and the new truck is an auto.

Seats might feel higher b/c they don't have almost ten years of use.

I thought the trunk button opened the locking tailgate.

Only had the '05 for 4 years and had a '12 between the two (all TRD seats). The newer ones are higher. :)
Edit: Good point though. After I only had the '12 for 37,000 miles, the '14's seats were more firm.

I'll have to pay closer attention to the seat level, one of my biggest complaints was the low seat in my 2006, it was hard do get used to at 6'0 tall, my legs were grinding into console. I honestly never noticed the height in the 2013.
