Put your panties back on. I never said you did anything on purpose. My response was about everyone getting all jittery on the wiring harness and that isn't supposed to happen etc. Nobody Blamed You.

When you say you " Hit Something ". What does that mean exactly? Hit it with what? Vague... See what I mean.

    Sorry you took it wrong.

I just pointed out what the service manual says. Follow it or don't, your choice. Have a nice day!

I hope you have luck getting the Insurance company to cover it however.

If the auto insurance folks shoot you down, try your homeowners.
Don't laugh, I've seen them cover some strange things.

Replaced house windows and auto glass for a guy who was a little late coming home.
    (About 3 days)
His wife (Bipolar off meds in the throes of a manic paranoid rage) used the 3 days to virtually disassemble the house and his vehicles.

Anything that could be broken was broken.
She used his snowplow truck to crush their Harleys, lawn tractor, toolboxes, hunting gear, etc. and then pushed the pile through the back wall of the garage into the inground pool where she also parked the truck. Weedkillered the yard. Bonfired his clothes and sundry other items. Used a chain saw to give much of the house...a unique wall treatment, something of a distressed finish. Blocked the whirlpool tub drain in the masterbath and left the water running for an interior waterfall feature. Used all the spray paint in the garage to write descriptively picturesque sentiments of a non-complimentary nature on the outside of the remaining walls. And other damage as well.

    The scene was truly awe-inspiring.
Place looked like the battle site of the last Viking Clan vs the last pack of Werewolves at the End of Time.

When he got home she was sound asleep on the living room floor.

Their homeowners covered everything. Even the vehicles.
    I would have never thought.

My only question is how much will this airbag deployment end up costing?

Insurance covered it, but its costly. A $6K bonehead move on my part.

Given these are safety components for the vehicle, all OEM parts are specified in the repair and all parts required per Toyota guidelines (i.e. change all the sensors etc...).

    Yup.

Often that is the determining factor if a vehicle gets totaled in a wreck or not. If the bags didn't deploy there is less of a chance.

And they work in the price of their own liability insurance into the price. You pay to defend them in case their product fails.

I'm glad your insurance covered it.

An agent once told me "We don't mind Oops. Mistakes are part of life. But we don't like fraud."

Until you price Traumatic Brain Injuries. ;)

Crazy... So what if you are working on your car but the keys are NOT in the ignition?? Can they still deploy accidentally?

Thread is 6 yrs old, but the answer is yes, IF I understand your Q correctly.

No power (battery disconnect) is the main way to be safe. However, if your work futzes the wiring, they can still blow when power is restored.
