Was working in the interior of the truck, had the radio on and didn't have the battery disconnected. Hit something (not sure what) and
set off the curtain air bags - both sides tripped. Headliner is toast too.

First- learn from my stupid mistake.

Second- any idea how much this will cost to have them replaced?

Got the insurance claim in already.

So what where you doing, or trying to do, when you triggered air bags?

Was adding some Mass Loaded Vinyl on the floorboard of the passenger side. Seat was in, hit something around the wire harness under the door sill when it popped.

Wow, never thought that would do it.

The last couple of weekends I have had my door sills and a bunch of interior plastic out while installing stereo equipment. Never thought of the airbags as being an issue. This is the first vehicle I have owned with more then a drivers side bag, yikes.
Will be disconnecting the battery from now on.

Damn that sucks. I probably would of had a heart attack if I did that.

But really there isn't any reason that those bags should have gone off. I've removed my seats with the battery in before without any problems.

I don't think I woulda called the insurance company. More than likely it will go on the carfax report and lower the value of the truck.

Yet obviously there is a reason. He wasn't removing his seats though.

its an example that the plugs and wires can be screwed with without setting off the air bag system. Seems more like there must have been a bad connection that got bumped and caused the airbags to deploy. Shouldn't have happened regardless.

Ever clean under your seats with a vacuum? I probably wont again. Lol

theres a sensor in the b pillar for a side impact and if you hit something around it hard enough it will set the bags off.
the system will only go off when the key in the ign and in the on or acc position fyi

PSA 105- disconnect your battery when messing with the interior and interior wiring (especially the yellow ones)
PSA 106- Airbag going off is while your head is in the truck is LOUD

It is a new truck so have it fixed under warranty as that sounds like a defect since it should take a collision to set them off.

    You must be joking.
Someone with no experience, does work on a vehicle and blows off the airbags and you want to have the factory fix your screwup. Rule #1 is disconnect the battery while working in the interior of the vehicle. Why????
Because 999 times out of 1000 nothing will happen. It's the one time and this is the result.
The hyperlink is for used airbags. You going to trust your life on a used bag that you have no idea the history of it?

You don't need to be in a collision to set off bags you short voltage to an air bag circuit it's going to pop glad you didn't get hurt bags are dangerous

This. Correct me if I'm wrong but most airbags aren't designed to go off multiple times. the metals parts are designed to take the stress from deployment once and then be replaced entirely. i would never trust a refurbished airbag
