I went out to do some errands this morning and A few blocks from my house I notice this strange screech/grind sound coming from my driver side, I couldn't quite make it out over the sound of my truck running.

I had been driving the truck for roughly an hour before I noticed any strange sounds, having stopped in at a few stores with no issue until this point. When it came to parking at home the sound was horrible and loud. It is louder in reverse than in drive.

I am uploading a video of what this sounds like and I will link it below. I am getting my truck into the nearest Toyota(dealer purchased from) tomorrow morning to get looked at. Any experience with something like this would be appreciated.

Sounds like the front brake backing plates hitting the rotors. Try crawling under and pull them back a little.

I haven't taken a look underneath. I will go out and have a look and see if my brake is stuck to the rotor. I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area, I have only installed breaks/rotors once on a VW Golf. If I see something weird I will take pictures.

Your truck is still pretty new but you should still jack it up (on a good jack not the crappy bottle jack) and try and shake that wheel if it has any play you could have a bad wheel bearing.

Not the brake to the rotor but the tin plate on the backside may be bent and scraping along the edge of the rotor (ask me how I know) With your fingers just pull it inward toward the center of the truck and away from the rotor the best you can.

I took a look and I really have no idea what I'm doing. Both fronts look the same, meaning there isn't any difference to me on the surface. I did look at that weird tin plate thing and didn't notice that it was bent any which way. Would driving it over a few bumps do any good or is that just a bad thought.

Bad wheel bearing or brake shims positioned as they not need be.

If you are capable of jacking the truck up, do so and attempt to manually roll the wheel. If you can still hear it both frontwards and backwards it's going to be the brake pad shims. If you can wiggle the entire wheel assembly and can see/feel wiggle, you have a bad wheel bearing.

    Good luck.

It's a new truck. Just take it back to your dealer. You paid enough for it. Let Toyota get their hands dirty.

Or you can do that too. If you have the technical knowledge, then it all comes down to the question of just how much your time is worth.

You should be able to feel if the tin plate is touching the rotor. It doesn't need to be pulled away very far.

In fact, from the outside looking through the spokes of the wheel you should be able to see if the tin plate is touching. Use a long handled screwdriver to just nudge it away.

just bring it to dealer so they can tell you they didn't hear anything...! or that it's normal.... but if you have no clue what to look for or whats going on under there bring it in asap.

I checked that tin plate on both fronts and it looks ok. I am going into the dealer with it first thing tomorrow morning, thank you for the help anyway.

I am hoping it wont be a huge problem to fix. I've had the truck for under a month. I am wondering if there is a rock jammed in the rear driver brake. I am debating driving it around the block and seeing if it lets loose over some of the bumps and dips. Not sure if that is a smart idea though.

Maybe a wheel bearing which would be odd for truck that new.

I'm going to bet a stone... perhaps another reason to pull on the backing plate a little.
