So I did an oil change on my 2005 toyota tacoma 4.0l and switched it from toyota oil to royal purple synthetic 5-30 and when I floor it it feels sluggish before I would floor it and it would take off what could be the problem?:(

Could it possibly be that you expect the "better" oil to improve performance?
I've heard your complaint before. And generally it comes down to the owner
being let down by the "better" oil. So, then they (maybe you) start to think the oil is causing issues like your sluggish complaint.

kind of like, If it wasn't better than it has to be worse?

I'm not saying the oil is better or worse or the equivalent. For all purposes we could be talking air filters.

I'm just asking, ARE YOU SURE IT RUNS WORSE?

Do yourself a favor and verify you actually drained the crankcase and refilled the engine with oil, as opposed to draining the transmission for instance. I'm not suggesting you wouldn't know the difference, but you'd be surprised how many threads there are on here of people who did just that.

If you changed the filter also, it should take 5.5 quarts to fill it up.
But a half quart low on oil should not make it fill sluggish.

You have check the oil dipstick haven't you?
The oil should be between the 2 holes on the bottom of the dipstick.
I prefer it to be right at or just below the upper hole. Toyota says any where between is OK.

It's on page 344 of the 2005 manual.

OR this link takes you to the manual page.

Take a picture of where you drained the oil from.

The dipstick is pretty long. So I guess it depends on what you are calling a little over? A little bit , say 1/2 quart over , shouldn't cause your issues. Anything 1 quart or more over very well could cause your issues. about how much over the top hole is the oil level?

Also, if for some reason you did drain the transmission it won't take long to
figure it out. How many miles you got on it since you changed the oil?

From that picture It appears you drained your transmission. If I were you I would not drive my truck one inch. Call a tow truck and take it to a mechanic.

Edit - I could be wrong. I just remember my engine looking different from the picture above the oil pan.
