Would a diesel Tacoma really be better than a Tacoma Hybrid? What would be the diesel Tacoma's MPG? Good story discussing these questions.

Nothing I don't guess. But about once a week this question gets asked. And its always the same thing over and over and over again.

I'd vote Diesel, but I love my 4.0 V6. My shop truck is a DuraMax so I get my diesel fill at work, even if that sweet motor is wrapped with a Chevy :/

NewLife is correct though, the diesel and/or hybrid Tacoma discussion comes up here often.

For me, neither. The 4 cylinder 4WD regular cab fits my needs. Diesels and hybrids are not cost effective for those of us who are low mileage drivers (6000 miles a year right now). You can never save enough fuel to pay the several thousand dollar upfront cost.

Living in northeast Ohio requires a powerful heater. Diesels have a reputation for being stingy with heat. I am not sure about hybrids. I want my engine running full time when I am driving, putting out heat and air conditioning as needed. Not only do I not drive much, but most of my driving is short trips.

Hybrid anything is a joke.....more complexity weight Maintenance etc.

Give me a good efficient turbo diesel less all the urea particlate filter crap that does nothing but diminish fuel efficiency and engine with a good manual 6 speed trans!!

Diesel for sure the whole hybrid thing is just more stuff to go wrong, especially on a truck that is known for heavy off road use by a lot of people.

That's a race car totally different for our truck needs. And they probably rebuild everything on the car after every race.

Not a hybrid, but Teslas are pretty cool. They're electric. They just cost 3 tacomas worth.

So they just run the things race after race without going through the engine or any other major components?
