I have a 2013 Tacoma with a 3 inch level in the front and new shocks in the rear with 285 rugged terrain tires. Every since I had this done the steering wheel and whole truck shakes really bad from 45-55 mph. Any way I can fix this?

Is it prolonged and constant, or only first thing in the morning or at first drive? Certain tires, when cold, can give a vibration off until they get up to temp. I've noticed this on my old car, a modified BMW running Falken's, and also on my current truck running factory Rugged Trails.

Secondary to that, have you had an alignment and are you still running factory upper control arms up front with that 3 inch lift?

I had 2 tires (35" BFG's) that were way out of balance & at certain speeds would shake the steering wheel real bad. When they were rotated to the back, the shakes went away. Might be worth you roatating the tires to see if it improves....unless all 4 are out of balance.:D

I would go along with the wheel balance. Tacomas and Toyota Trucks in general are particular about the wheel balance.

Does it go away if you shift it into 4Hi?

I get the tires rotated and balanced every 5000 miles and it's been doing it since I got the lift which was about a year ago and 15,000 miles.. It's constant. And yes everything is still factory besides. The lift and tires

I just had a lift installed too with new uca's alignment and tires rotated and balanced twice and those are the exact speeds that my steering wheel shacks. I also have a 3" lift and 285s. I am going to have Toyota balance mine at 5k and road force them and see if that fixes it. Let me know if you figure out what is causing yours and fixes it.

I will test out mine in 4 hi tomorrow and see if it still vibrates at those speeds.

Still betting that they aren't properly balanced. There is a special fixture they need to use. Not sure what they call it at the moment.

This may not apply to you, but for others searching and finding this thread...

I had this problem only while breaking at speeds you mention but not as significant a vibration as if the tires were out of alignment. Occurred after we added an extra spring to the rear. I also noticed a slight added vibration on the accelerator pedal, tho' no one else did. Since no one else could feel it, it was chalked up to road vibration (implication I was imagining it). Spring lift setup was fine.

Finally came to the DH's attention when he was driving it, he first thought it may be joints, etc. Short version, it was not tire balance or alignment. Evidently after the springs were added, the rims were put on too tightly and warped the brake rotors terribly (hence the slight metallic vibration I felt on the accelerator pedal that no one else could notice).

Take home, make sure your rims are hand tightened or wrench is set correctly. More is not better.

I find it impossible to believe that over tightening the lug nuts will warp a rotor. The Wheel and Rotor are sandwiched between the Lug Stud Head and the Lug Nut.

OK then. I was hoping it was just the needle bearing since that's a cheaper fix. My money's on unbalanced tires. Good luck.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing on the balance. I have taken it twice to Firestone where I have a lifetime balance and alignment guess I need to take it to Toyota and have them do it correctly. At Toyota does anyone know if they still honor the 20k mile service for free after you put new tires on and a lift?

My guess^^^^ They are very particular to wheel balancing, found this out on a friends truck. Theyll get the old "seesaw steering wheel" as i like to call it. Lol
