I'm sure this has been answered allot but am toying with the idea.

I have a 04 double cab 4x4 tacoma that I have pretty much owned since new with only 87000 miles.

I know earlier on the 01-04 were considered better than the 05 up to 09 but has that changed?

Is it worth selling my taco for the new trd pro or even just a new 4x4 taco? Or just mod the heck out of mine and don't look back?

    Thanks for the help.

Only real difference is the motor 3.4 vs 4.0 then the looks. It's up to you if you want a new body style ornthe b older one. Both trucks are equal off road stock to stock.

Not sure if the trd pro is worth the money the dealer charges

It depends on how much you are asking for your current Tacoma- people like me in the Midwest are looking for dry climate, un-modded, low milage 1st gens, and will pay accordingly. If you get a good price for your Tacoma, you can invest into a 2nd gen if thats what you want. Once you mod your current Tacoma, the resale value never reflects the amount you put into it.

    I'd personally keep the truck.
My only dislikes about my truck are tow capacity and power, I can't fix the tow capacity but I can usually a F-250 from my Dad or Grandpa, and I'll be supercharging my truck to fix the power issue.

I don't know if that's what I want but I do like the newer looks. I just hear the new ones have more problems and I've taken care of mine and has no problems, aside that it could use a lift since the stock shocks are not as springy as new.
