This is puzzling me. I took my 2013 Tacoma limited out off roading a couple months a go and i snagged a rock on my front mud flap and took it off. It was on my driver side.

Now fast forward a few months i got a huge faint scratch in the city all the way across my two doors. I accepted it and moved on. A month passes and i get another scratch in the same area! This is puzzling me beyond belief. I have no idea where these scratches came from. The only logical answer to me would be from rock chips flying from my front wheel and scratching my doors. Since my passenger side still has the front mud flap and has no scratches. But I see people take off their mudflaps all the time and no scratches occur due to pebbles flying off the wheel scratching the paint.

Take a look and if any one has any clue as to what is causing these scratches.

    Thanks! and cheers!

I don't understand why you would be getting scratches all the way down the side of your cab, but I removed my front mud flaps and I've got some nice chips in the paint from my tires throwing rocks into the doors. Once the rock makes contact with the door, it bounces off. That's why I'm puzzled by your description of the scratches. How does the lower leading edge of those chrome steps look?

Yep , I have rocks hit my mirror and high up on the doors and all I did was trim 3" off the mud flaps

Shortly after removing my mud flaps I started getting dents too. Come to think of it a few trails actually grabbed my flaps from my truck.

The chrome edge looks unfazed. There is actually some rusting where the scratch is deepest. :(

Dumb idea but have you tried to buff it? Almost looks like road tar from fresh paving or a tar and chipped road.
