So I got my truck a month ago. 2013 SR5 PreRunner. Just needed a truck quick, so I didn't do any amazing research on Tacoma's in general. Now I really wish I got the Off road package instead. Question is...

Should I trade in now? Or wait for the 2015s while my truck loses its value?

Any help or suggestions are much appreciated!

If you trade in now you'll take a big loss on the deal. If yo're dead set on getting something else, sell it. that's the only way you stand a chance of not loosing your shorts. These trucks actually hold their value extremely well. The book value now is the same as I paid for my truck in 2010.

True, the thing is it already lost $5k in value not even a month after i purchased it. Offered me $25,600. Pretty bummed about that, but what can you do? I mean if there was more info about the 2015s, then this decision would be much easier.

Definitely 4wd. I just needed a vehicle cuz my old one broke down and so my interest for tacomas has grown. Now I realize that I could of got something much better for the money I'm paying

    Live and learn.

... I'd say trade it in on what you want and take the hit; at least your payments will be going on the truck you want and not on something you're unhappy with. Call it a life lesson that cost you some money...but a mistake you won't make again.

Yah know, this is an amazing truck. So I think i'll just keep it for the time being. Once I have the right finances maybe in a few years I'll trade it. Most of the packages are fairly easy to upgrade anyway and 4x2 will just have to do. With that being said, let the serious mods begin!

Thank you all for your input.

 If you have the patience to wait a couple years, you're making the right decision. Sometimes you have to figure out your actual needs, versus your wants.

Keep it for now. It's much better from a financial stand point.

I bought a 2009 Grand Cherokee 4x4 brand new and was sick of it by 2011. So I traded it for a WRX. Problem was that the Jeep had depreciated in value so much that I only got $14k for it on trade in. Thus the payments on my Subie were $600 a month. I got my Taco because I deployed to Afghanistan and payed down the Subie so I had equity in it when I got my truck. Now my payments are a comfortable $375/month and I double them since I was already paying $600 anyway.

    Just my .02

This. I also purchased a 2wd simply because I didn't have a need for the 4wd. I got mine last Oct. Lately I've been having that really bad itch to want a new one and get a 4wd. Like others have said, keep it for a little while and figure out what you need versus want. I personally don't really need a 4wd, just want it for those few times at the beach or looking for new camping locations. Lucky for me though what I owe is what my trade in is, so I wouldn't really be losing anything. Since the 2015 will pretty much be the same, my vote is keep it for the redesign or go for the Pro if you're set on trading now.

Yersh...sales tax, property tax, registration depending on you state.

Expensive lesson to learn; it took me (f)leasing an S-10 to finally get me to stop and think a little bit about what I want before signing over tens of thousands of dollars.

Very true. I'm excited to make it my own. Looking into lifting it already!
