    Hey guys,
I recently got rid of my 13' Tundra to get a more family friendly Sienna for my wife, now its time for me to get something else, currently have my eyes on a 06' Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 with V6, 6-speed and 33's, 85k miles.. not sure guessing its a 3 inch lift...
What is the gas mileage you all have seen with the bigger tires? just wondering, taking everything into consideration.... Also have a stock TRD Off road in sight too, but the sport has 40k less miles

Thanks for any and all responses, i browsed around on Google and this site, but could not really find, a straight answer post... also internet out here at sea kind of sucks, so yeah this is a little easier right now...

    Matt

I get 17-19 depending on my driving with 33's but i've got a 5-speed AT so you may lose alittle there

Get the V6 you won't regret it... Esp coming from the tundra, the 4cylinder just won't suit ya.. IMO .

V6 version for sure for sure. The fuel economy will be noticiably better and the power loss won't be nowhere near as close as the I4 Tacoma.

I have an 05 double cab V6 4x4 6 speed with 65,000 miles. I get about 17.5 mpg in mixed driving and 23-24 mpg on highway trips. It's bone stock with 265/70r16 all terrain tires and all oils are synthetic. I think the 6 speed manual will punish or reward your MPG more than the auto depending on your driving habits.

This guy right here gets those numbers. Actually, higher then that. <---

Mines a 12 with 3" lift, 32's, and selectively armored. If you drive highway, expect some pretty good numbers for a truck. As long as you don't drive like you just escaped out of a maximum security state penitentiary. :D

Getting 30 mpg on the highway
I bought my 06 TRD sport, 4x4, V6, 6 speed with 295/70/17s, 3 inch lift two years ago with 75k. It now has 285/70/17s and 110k. I average between 12 and 20 mpg, depending on in town/highway driving and if the highway drive is at 55 or 85 mph.....

    Hope that helps some!

You also have to factor in the PSI in your tires. Two identical trucks driven the same way except for difference in psi from 32 and 42 psi, the truck with the higher psi will net you several mpgs better on the count of the fact that there is less rolling resistance.

Tread pattern is an important factor as well. If you want to gain better mpgs, you are going to have minimize rolling resistance, which also means sacrificing tire quality and performance.

The only time I got close to 20mpg I was on the highway right after I bought it a year ago. Typical real world MPG is around 16 city, 18 highway. Go 4.0l unless you're trying to wait for a new version of the engine (2015-16 maybe?). It's practically bulletproof.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, CHECK THE FRAME! If you see rust or bubbling paint or what looks like a bad paint job, RUN, don't walk away! 05/06s are bad about this, especially around New England and the "Salt Belt" areas.

My '09 Tacoma AC with a lift and 285/75/16 Toyo MT's got between 15 and 18mpg depending on conditions. My '14 Tacoma DC only has 4500 miles on it, but my best tank stock was 20.4 mpg. It now has a 3" lift and 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx and my worst tank has been 16.8 and best 19.3. I don't drive very aggressively however. Both are 4x4 Automatics.
