I have a 2013 trd and my fuel gauge stopped working. I topped my tank about a 100 miles ago and the gauge reads above "F".. It does nothing erratic just stays above "F"..When I shut the truck off it drops like the rest of the gauges ...I'm baffled.

warranty don't even worry about it

I can sometimes squeeze 80 miles before an overfilled tank makes needle move but it does
move by 100 miles no matter what

I say run it 50 more miles if still stuck, just get it fixed

Drive another 100 miles? Mine never drops below F after a fill up for 120-130 miles, especially if I top off the tank.

*Sorry, just noticed above post.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
You guys have some fuel efficient trucks!

Mine starts moving after about 50 or 60 miles.

One thing that sucks about this truck is the nonlinear fuel guage...and it's small fuel tank. If they could slap on a 31 gallon tank on the Tundra and slap the Tundra's current 25.4(?) gal tank in the Tacoma, that would make a good truck even better.

You overfilled it. If you keep doing that it will damage the Charcoal Evap Filter due to liquid gasoline getting into the Vapor System.

These filters run about $300.00 just for the part.

Advise: Only fill until the pump clicks off the first or second time. No more.

It's not good to top off the tank. The Tacomas have a carbon canister on them that can and has been damaged by topping off. Actually most new cars and trucks have this carbon canister for emissions. I'm guessing you'll want to know what happens when it gets damaged. What happens is it takes for ever to fill your tank because the pump will keep cutting off since your canister is full of gas.

^This. Especially if you're paying by credit card there is zero need to topoff and it'll end up screwing your evap sensor. Seeing the pump go XX.00 feels satisfying but it's not worth the trouble.

Didn't mean to post the same answer as Jimmy. I was writing my post at the same time he was posting.

Even if she filled it to the first click of the pump the guage will read above full. The last 3-4 new vehicles Ive had have all done this and all have non-linear fuel guages. My Honda Pilot is even worse, sometimes the needle doesn't move till its almost half empty then it starts falling fast and the low gas light comes on when the needle is at 1/4.

almost no fuel gauge is going to be accurate after top off

the float is still an old-school float. and it is not in a raised area to always
float above the fuel even when topped off...

when full the float is drowned and it takes some fuel removal to
get the float to start to drop. that is why it sits above full for about 50-80 miles

and...no one is putting radar, pressure, pingers, RF, ultrasonic, tuning forks, sealpot, magnetorestrictive, thermal-dispersion level sensors in the tank for exactly accurate level.

[you see these advanced systems and 'tankradar' at brewerys, chemical and refineries where exact tank level is critical...]

so by reading both these posts here is what happened to me.. im guilty of topping off at gas stations just because my dad had always done it and so i just always have. besides the fact, here is what happened. i have a 2009 reg cab 6lug and put 15 dollars in the tank with no problem (there was a huge down pour of rain though...) Got back into my home town to fill up and i was having those issues at every pump. Wouldnt go for more than 5-10 cents before shutting off. I noticed that the filler neck was getting fulll but the tank wasnt since it eventually go down after a few seconds. Ive driven about 60-70miles and my gauge is still above full when usually that about a quarter tank for me. (35s and more). the way i knew my tank was full at the gas station was because i was looking at the gauge as i was filling up and it got a little below the full line when i stopped.

best way to figure it out would be to bring it into a shop and see what the deal is? im pretty mechanically inclined so maybe i could do it myself?
