Question on Mud Flaps

mud flaps? what are the pro's and con's to it? i have heard that if i go off roading and land wrong.. that the mudflap can damage my paint.... does it really get your truck dirtier when off roading?

 

they are there to keep things from flying up and hitting the truck, however, you'll hit them all the time offroading and they don't flex enough.

 

are there substitutes for them? life more flexible mud flaps?

 

and they will eventually break anyways..... but buy the time you take them off, your paint will also be rubbed off. Just take them off now and since you are a 4x4 they will sell on ebay or craigslist easily.

 

I took the fronts off. The hit and bent back as I was pulling out of a driveway. The backs on my Sport have not hit anything.

I have noticed a bit more mud coming up and hitting the sides. Until I lift, I will deal with it.

 

Yes you can find generic aftermarket flexible rubber mudflaps that will work fine. I haven't had any issues without mine.

 

if you go w/out the mud flaps i would reccommend putting a clear bra like sticker on the bottom of your front door area and the bottom of the bed area to protect the paint from chipping..

I took the fronts off to fit my tires/wheels but left the back on. I don't really do a lot of off-roading, really only when I'm goin to a huntin spot, but what little I do they've been OK. But I do have a lot of places where rocks have come up and hit on the bottom of the door that I believe the flaps would have helped prevent.
