    Reading more about this coupling that just spins... Do you have a very thin crescent wrench that you can fit under hex portion and around the shaft.. If so you can get a really good amount of leverage using that as the lever while simultaneously using a socket wrench to turn the hex part...
    I have used this approach before and it works well...

    Or a very small pickle fork (ball joint)

    Turned stripped - I just put some Teflon tape on it and screwed it in - been good 4 years.
