I am new to the suspension game and I have an 07 tacoma double cab prerunner and notcied it has started riding a little worse over time. I wanted to redo the suspension to ride better, any suggestions? i considered just getting all new oem toyota parts for suspension, but still not sure what i need. lifts are considered, but dont want anthing more than 2-3 inches(seldom off-road but would be convienient). What all do i need to do a suspension upgrade? sorry if it has been answered before, i couldnt find one that gave a direct answer as to what all was needed.

Toyota suspension is not the greatest. I wouldn't waste time or money to replace something that will fail again.

If you give me a budget I can price some lift options out for you that I have suggested to others in the past.

well ive never really done anything like this but i dont really want to spend more than 1200. i dont know if that is enough but i suppose i could find a way to get some more money if that wont cut it.

I pieced together my suspension and bought most used and saved a ton, but I accumulated parts for months. I essentially paid $2500 for full 3" suspension, new leaf pack, UCA's, shocks, leaf flip kit, spacers and wheels and tires and put it all together myself.

    Good starting points:

    Option A: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Bilstein-Adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks_p_132.html

    - NO diff drop
    - Need top plate spacers if you planning on running at full 3"
    - For the rear, the BEST option will be a new leaf pack

    Option B (and my favorite) : http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/OME-Tacoma-Suspension-lift-kit_p_231.html

    Again,

    - 884 coils if you want 2"-2.5"; 885 plus top plate spacer if you want full 3" lift
    - NO diff drop
    - For the rear, the BEST option will be a new leaf pack

For either option I recommend the Dakar CS047R leaf pack. You can remove a leaf if you want less lift in the rear.

These are the two most popular options on here. Anything more and you will be looking into coil overs and blowing that $1200 budget.

thanks for all the help, seems like there are quite a few options. Is this something a newbie like myself could do, or would i need to get a shop to do it. i have done basic stuff but nothing that seems as big of a job as this one.

Looking back, if I had an available second person the day my lift got installed, I would have went that route.

I had a shop do the install the first time, then when I upgraded to a new leaf pack from a AAL, I had the help of a TW member. It wasn't too bad at all.

This^ Make sure your jack stands are the 6 ton so they extend high enough or use a concrete slab or something to sit the 3 ton ones on. Def a lot of grunt work and 2 people is highly recommended. If you install the UCA's on your on have fun that was the biggest pain in my ass getting the bolts back in. The shocks if I ever redo will be preassembled 150%. Biggest joke to try and do that yourself unless you have a hydraulic compressor to compress the coils to get the struts in. I would def try and do it yourself and research as it will make everything feel much better telling people you installed it yourself. My neighborhood now knows me as the guy who lifted his own truck in his driveway lol. :D

It want look horrible, but will look a little goofy without bigger tires. Maybe wait till you are ready to get new rubber on the truck?

Save the cash and just get some bilstein 5100s front and rear. If you want add springs up front to level the truck for a better stance. If you don't off road and don't plan to get big wheels and tires then skip the lift kits. Most lift kits will ride more firm then your stock suspension which can be annoying for daily driving.

also i have had problems with my drivterrain already. i had to replace all 3 u joints because of truck vibration was so bad. would a lift hurt them and make them go out even quicker?

I'm looking into these 2 options, or Bilstein 5100 all around and add a new leaf pack. Would I need coils or stock work? Is everything you need in both option a and b? If not what else would you need?

Carrier bearing drop kit (might not need it but it's recommended), extended brake lines in the rear, not sure if they offer u bolts with it. I went with the u bolt flip kit from all pro.
