Sales are Down

"Tacoma sales are down 7 percent this year through July to 88,398, while Frontier sales are up 19.5 percent to 41,740, according to Autodata.

GM said many midsize pickup buyers wanted better fuel economy and a quieter and more comfortable interior. GM said midsize trucks are more often used for commuting than a full-size, and that its new trucks are easy to maneuver in the city and will fit in a garage."

Can it be people are keeping their trucks longer? No real shockers here. People in the comments say bye bye Tacoma. Tacoma been going strong for years.

They do need a Gen 3 one of these days.

compare the price of your 5 year old Tacoma to any other 5 year old truck and you will find out why people buy Toyota

This is because Toyota finally depleted the resourses of every single human being on this earth , whom ever wanted a 2nd gen, owns one now.

But on a more serious note, you wouldn't know it her in Northern California. I counted at least five brand new Tacomas today on dealer paper plates. Sales must not be slow here.

Just spitballing here, but being located near the Motor City, I would guess that more than half of all full-sized trucks around here are used for weekday commuting and weekend play. A slightly smaller, 300 hp easier to park domestic will sell really well. The good news for some Tacoma enthusiasts is that if the new GM twins are only equal to the current Tacoma, Toyota will significantly up their game in the 3rd Gen. I say some because I am afraid it will mean more electronics and less "truck".

OP, have you read the sales figures from several other sources for this year?..... Anywhere but from the Detroit News?

it's because i think they are pricing themselves out of business for the tacoma. who wants to pay $35-$40k for a tacoma when you can buy a full size truck cheaper than that?

the majority of people don't.

i got the 4cyl tacoma 4x4 though so only $20k for me.

if they could get the v6 tacoma 4x4 offroad or sport in the $25k range they would sell twice as many tacomas easy.

I was thinking the same thing. Like asking "Do you think the Tacoma can survive the Chevy Colorado"? Well.... This is a Tacoma Forum.

yeah didn't you remember the one where the tacoma jumps over a dune really high or something and it's fake???

there's also one about a meteor hitting it or something and it keeps going. there were alot of commercials when the 2nd gen first came out.

hey i'm just making a point.

i got my 1988 for toyota truck 1st gen for $6000. that was used but you see what a huge increase in price that is???

i drove that 1st gen for 10 years with no truck payment.
