Anyone rarely if ever haul anything?

I've used the bed 7 times in the last 4 years, and 5 of those times are for picking up parts and tools for the truck itself. I open the tailgate so rarely, the handle mechanism seized earlier this year. I had to take off the tailgate liner and spray some white lithium grease on the mechanism to free it up.

Sure, I've had a few things in mine.
Nothing like I would do with the old Ford I traded in on the Taco.
I would haul dirt, rocks, bark ships, wood, just about anything.
I want to baby the Taco for a few years before I abuse it.:p

    A little a this, a little a that...
Only when camping or working on the house. Having an open bed is the most useful thing in the world IMO.

I use mine often, usually with stuff for the house or helping a good friend haul something.

Sounds like I can haul most of the stuff you guys are talking about in the back of my Civic hatchback.

Tacoma's are really popular out here in Seattle area but most of them are grocery runners. Some old timer in a shiny new DCLB thought I was a loon when I was loading 15 bags of portland cement into my Taco at Home Depot. He said he wouldnt haul that much weight in his LOL. I think he was getting a bag of Sakrete.

I helped move stuff twice already..what a pain lol, I use it to haul everything that is to big for our Outback or to nasty to store inside.

My bed pretty much looks like this (more often more stuff than this) during October & November (hunting season) while I'm traveling to & from various destinations. Come December it's loaded with dog crate and duck & goose decoys.

Of course there's no Civic hatchback now, effectively replaced in the market by the CR-V. :p

Coincidentally I've hauled more large items in the Impreza wagon:

    Elliptical machine
    8' long 2x4 lumber
    Compost (in bags)
    Paving stones
    Dresser
    Sliders for the Taco...

I got it because I was tired of tearing up the inside of my Matrix with my mountain bike, so I got a hatchback rack which was fine but a pain in the ass having to take on and off every time you use it. I used to have a truck for years, missed it, so I went back to it.

    nothing cool
Exactly why its nice to be able to toss them in the back of my truck and dump them at the compost pile. The city mulches everything and you can even pick up soil, mulch, and compost for free. People in my neighborhood without trucks have to place all tree, bush, leaves, or anything else in those tall brown bags for curbside pick up.

Carried more shit for friends than myself, then they started asking if I can haul 1700 lbs of dirt from the landscape yard for them so they can save $50 on delivery. Fuck that, no longer a moving or handyman service.

Hauling a mountain bike in the bed is using the bed as far as I'm concerned

Ive had my truck less than a year and it's already hauled:
    Furniture
    An 8-foot sailing dingy
    Kayaks
    Lumber
Garden Landscaping ties, rocks and sand
    Lawn/Tree cuttings to the dump
    Outboard motors
    Gas Cans
    My Mountain Bike

...and more stuff that I can't think of at the moment. It gets used like a truck; that's what I bought it for.

I thought you were to only ask close friends and family to help you move. Some people just don't know proper moving etiquette. They could be asking you to take things too fast and that just ain't right!

    Tonneau cover Window tint
Shells make sense deepening on your environment. I live in a daily urban area. Anything left in my bed would be promptly removed by some A hole by morning. Leaving it in the cab would only end up with a broken window and the loss of my stuff. Tonneau's are great but certainly restrict the size of what you can carry plus cleaning the snow off it before you open it is a pain. Having a shell with dark tint on the windows along with a navy blue blanket as a cover renders all but the largest items invisible. It also renders your rearview mirror useless, but thats another topic.
