Obviously without knowing how you claim to do this, I can only conjecture, but I do not see any way to turn off the odometer without causing issues with the ABS, Cruise control, transmission, etc. I call this one out.

Its not that low. I bought my '06 in Feb. 2011 with 18,000 miles. Now it has 73,000 miles.

No one ever said it didn't effect electronic systems, but the ones you have listed aren't all effected and some are that you didn't list

Call me a liar all you want, but I'm not retarded enough to post a "how to" on disabling the ODO publicly nor do I really feel like sharing this info with people I don't trust/know just because they called me out on some forum

With a little help from my friends

You must drive a lot to have a car payment completely offset by fuel savings. How much do you drive a year/month?

Wouldn't call that suspiciously low mileage. The PO of my truck had two trucks, when I was going through service records I saw that he only drove it about 55k miles in an 8-year period. It happens

    Mileage isn't that low IMO... I have a 2010 Infiniti FX35 and I barely hit 45,000 miles.

Dont underestimate how easy it is to roll back.

I've seen the mileage rolled back on our digital clusters, it's stupid easy with the right tool. Don't have to touch the ECU. It's all in the cluster readout. Could also swap in a different cluster with lower miles

That being said 30k in 3-4 years isn't that bad

My 09 just rolled 25k. Like others said, more than one car to drive, so the 4x4 sits in the garage.

As previously stated, look for abnormal wear for that mileage, and Inspection / Maint. records
    I have 2010 Tacoma - 33,000 mi +/-
    2000 Solara - 30,000 +/-
Both bought new, still look relatively new and driven primarily by myself.
    Also have other vehicles.
So, with a similar scenario, the mileage could be accurate

First off, I think my post stating "issues with the ABS, Cruise control, transmission, etc." shows that I know there are more modules that can be affected. It is pretty easy for someone to come in and make a claim, but then deny how it can be done, thus making it impossible for someone to prove or disprove your claim. Besides, your "fear" of posting how is unfounded. There is no law or government entity that can do a thing to someone who posts "how to" do something, even if it is illegal. You can buy the Alchemist's Cookbook which shows how to build bombs. Bombs are illegal, but showing how to make them is not. If you want to put any weight behind your claim, then let's hear it. Otherwise it is simply smoke and mirrors. I have been working on these systems for many years, and I know exactly how they work, and how the information is handled. And until you can post proof otherwise, yes, I will call out your statement as false.

I'm not doubting that an odometer in the cluster can be adjusted with the right software. My argument is that IF this is done, there would be a code set, and it would be too easy to prove the odometer was tampered with.

This isn't the first thread I have commented on like this over the years.

I'm not posting here to help you or one up you. Just trying to tell OP and everyone else to watch out because these trucks are super easy to run up miles on.

Your lack of knowledge regarding this topic and calling me out has no effect on me. Ive seen it done by multiple people and I was shown how to do it by a pro. I know it has been done on trucks that were returned to Toyota with 50-60k less on the ODO then the truck actually had. Believe me or not I could care less.

Bob would not want info on how to do illegal things posted on his site and doing so is against the COC.

I am not the only person on TW who knows how to do this :spy:

At least 450,000 care per year are sold with false mileage... do some research and you will find it's much easier than you keep making it out to be.

These guys know their shit (professionals) and still look at seat and petal wear

My 2012 purchased in May of that year has 14,000~ on it. So 27 months = 518 miles per month. If I drove that 2010, that lets say I purchase 1/2/2010 that would be 44 months. At my mileage level that would be 22,792. So, 30,000 seems well within reason.

I don't commute to work and my mileage comes from running around town. Although we did drive it to New Orleans (from Fort Worth) which is about 560 miles each way, and to Kansas City which is about the same distance, so those two trips put on about 2,240 of those miles. Without those trips, I'd be at about 12,000 miles or 428 per month.

You are almost always correct in your knowledge on cars from what I have read previously but you need to see the dark side. Rolling back is easily done on the tacoma.

X2...without setting off codes or anyone knowing it was done. ECU shows updates.... single rewritten chips do not.

BTW - I just asked a mod and posting any DIY methods on stopping the ODO or rolling it back are grounds for immediate perma ban. Even PM'ing the info can get you gone :)

    I'm done.

Moral of the story - check for wear and don't trust the ODO.

A drunken money could stop it from accumulating miles and a high school science nerd could roll back your ODO with free software and a excel spreadsheet.
