I currently have a jeep and a growing family so looking to move back into a Toyota. I have had 1 tacoma and 2 tundras. Wife currently has a 4runner.
The jeep goes offroad quite a bit and I have no clue how much I might do itwith the new vehicle but I know I will use it for fishing, hunting etc.

If I go with a tacoma I plan on adding wheels and tires immediately so I have
been reading on here for weeks. Not sure about a lift but I might go into
withdrawals going from 35's down to 265's. I was leaning towards the tundra
but then I will not want to spend money on wheels/tires due to the extra cost of the truck.

Anyone use an infant seat in the back of a double cab tacoma?
I will also have a 9yo back there and don't want it to be too cramped for them.

This is what I am getting rid of:

I've got a 2014 Double Cab, and I put my daughter's rear facing car seat in the rear middle seat. It allows the front driver and passenger to recline plenty for long drives. If you put a rear facing seat in the left or right rear seat, you'll probably end up having to slide a seat forward a little bit (depending on the carseat you have, mine is a Graco Snugride 30, which I believe is a smaller model).

Pretty much any forward facing car seat should fit perfectly fine.

I've never used an infant seat in back of mine, but you shouldn't have an issue.

    9 yo, no problem.

I have 265's on the Taco and do just fine, no plans to go larger and I'm off road almost every weekend. Any larger tire would necessitate a re-gear.

We have the Graco snug ride too but I can't put it in the middle with my son back there too. I don't want him too cramped so I plan on putting the car seat on one side and him on the other.

    Just a few
I have my 4 month old son in his car seat behind the passenger seat and my 5 yr old daughter behind my seat. My wife is a little cramped but she's only 5'2 so it's not too bad. We're about to get my son a bigger rear facing car seat so we'll see how it fits.

That's what I am worried about. I am even tempted to get a 2nd 4runner for myself but I really want a truck again. My wife is around 5'9" and I am 6'.

Op, I would love for you to join the club again. But in all seriousness, there isn't anymore room in a DC Tacoma, than there is in your JK. I have a 3 y/o still in Graco Argos 90, and 5 Y/O in booster, and the space is tight. Not much room for anything else, but a grocery bag.

I can't imagine the space in my head being any different than your J/K rear seat area, aside from the continence of having doors on the Tacoma. Seeing that your an avid Jeep guy, why not a 4D Wrangler?

I've got a 2013 DCSB. My kids were 3, 6 and 8 when I bought it a year ago. Because I live in BC all three had to be in either car seats or booster seats. No problems fitting them in. The 3 year old was of course in a forward facing setup by then, but I don't see any problems with having a rear facing in the middle back seat. I'm 6 feet as well. If you are worried (I was) take a taco for a test drive, load it up with all of the kids and see how it works - that's what I did. The taco fits my family well.

Pool - I am an avid Jeep guy but I am the only one that really enjoys it. I grew up on the coast and have water in my blood.
Last year we "stored" a boat for a family member and found out my wife and son love the water/boat as much as I do.
I also had too many issues with this version of jeep and wouldn't do the 4dr because of them.
If I ever get another one it will be a previous model.

The biggest issue I have right now is the 2dr, it is going to be hard for me to get the
infant carrier to the back seat of the jeep due to a somewhat recent back surgery.
I don't see how I will be able to do that without twisting my body.

I will test one and put the car seat in it but I figured I would see if someone could tell
me how it really is day after day. Sometimes the "test fit" just doesn't tell you everything you really need to know.

There is plenty of room in the back seat of a DC Tacoma. I had a car seat in the back seat of my 2004 DC for several years without a problem and both of my kids rode in the rear seat of my 2008 DC Tacoma for several years. My son, who was in that car seat back then, is now claiming my 2013 Rubicon, so I'm going back to a Tacoma...a regular cab 4x4 this time.

LOL. It's been pretty good so far. That is actually my 9th Jeep. I have always loved Toyota trucks and Jeeps. I have been trying to talk my son into a Tacoma, but so far, he only wants the Jeep. I think living in a beach town has something to do with that. He still has about 9 months before he gets his license, so he may change his mind.

My 2014 DC hauls my family pretty well (myself, wife, 14 year old, and 1 year old). The baby's car seat fits fine and all that. For road trips we take the wife's vehicle though.
