I was thinking more about this. Could it be because of the more fuel-efficient trucks?

GM’s Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are going to be important new additions to the smaller than full-size pickup market. The Ford F-150 is bringing a new, lighter full size to market with an entirely new, and much more fuel efficient engine. The Nissan Frontier’s sales are also up. Will Toyota simply stand by and watch as its Tacoma sales dwindle? Apparently the company will, at least for a year or two.

here is my opinion: regardless of what the big 3 do with any new mid size additions, those companies do not have the reliability history that Toyota has and many of you know that because you have driven them, Toyotas, way longer than I have. Also, do you think that those manufactures can build the same quality that Toyota does for off-roading in a mid size? Finally, if Tacoma's do suffer the fate of dying on the vine, just think how much your truck just increased in re-sale value.

Dude, just about every "article" on that site is baseless speculation by some retard being paid to drive up site hits for ad revenue. Nothing is researched or based on anything resembling facts.

You may as well ask "Will Beavis ever post anything useful?"

I would say this isn't going to happen, they may lose some sales to the fair weathers but considering some dealers can't keep tacomas in stock even with diesel midsized trucks on the horizon, doesn't really push toyota to move quickly and when you've been king of the market for as long as they have, you don't really have to either, the sales guy I had at my dealer told me he had the easiest job in the world tacomas sell themselves all he's there for is organizing papers

tacoma isn't going anywhere. they've been selling them here since the 80's. many of those older trucks are still on the road today.

The Dodge Dakota didn't wither away. Dodge just killed it outright when they made it really ugly the last couple years they made it. The Durango used to look good too but now it just looks like any other overfed minivan.

The Tacoma is here to stay as long as Toyota doesn't screw it up.

then why did i have a 1988 model that i drove for 300k miles before i sold it back in high school and college?

    :D

it wasn't called a tacoma but it was the same truck. a name doesn't mean anything. they aren't selling a name they are selling a truck.

they could change the name to the toyota hilux in america or whatever. noone would give a crap. they would still buy it.

    exactly

i liked it better that way anyways. they should drop the tacoma name altogether and just call it a toyota pickup again.

A lot of those small trucks were phased out because of cheap gas prices and everyone wanting the biggest vehicle around.

Suzuki has gotten into the small/mid-sized truck market too. Just saw one the other day where I work. Not bad looking, but I have to wonder if it's going to fall apart after 80,000 miles.

I do not think the Tacoma will wither on any vine. In my neck of the woods they sell for sticker price while the domestic full size trucks are discounted by thousands so I am sure they are making a tidy profit on every Taco they sell.
