I literally just got my truck stuck in regular sand, 07 2wd tacoma, came across a little washout area where alot of dirt collects and it would go through. regular 20" street tires. tried forward and reverse and dug myself a 2 foot trench. this is when I would love a 4wd, and why im putting trail grapplers on my tacoma.

Mt's are worse in the sand than AT's I'm pretty sure...

you are correct. They call MTs gravediggers in sand. Tires will not make a diff in this situation.

Let the air out of your tires and I bet you will drive out of it.

I am on the sand a good deal every year to surf fish. I have 285/75r16. I rarely ever air down. Maybe I am the exception?

Sand differs depending on where you are. There are beaches in Florida you can drive a car on and there are beaches in OBX where if you dont have 4x4 and air down you won't even make it off the dune. I see you have a DE surf tag on there so you probably never need to air down. I too fish the DE seashores and I air down but only cause I am running the stock tires.

And the best sand tires are not mud terrains, an all terrain with a modest, not aggressive tread and airing down to 15-18 psi is best.

With that being said, running 285's on a truck as light as a Tacoma you probably never need to air down but the truck would also probably not work as hard if you did. Beautiful truck btw.

He is two wheel drive. If he had a 4 wheel drive with A-Trac engaged he would not be stuck.

    Yup

Speed helps more in sand. Without 4x4, you will get stuck as soon as you slow down or stop in 2wd.

yeah seems like locking before u got into that would have prevented ur situation. i no it says only use when stuck, but alot of times u have to be able to move to engage it and it may be too late then. lock and skinny pedal go a long way on flat ground

    I added a bolt once...
arsenj0365 is correct...sand varies by country, state, and even beach/swamp whatever. The amount of moisture in the sand also has an effect on how a vehicle will react.

Hope you got it pulled out OP...that looks deep.
I had an 06 Prerunner and only drove on the OR/WA beaches at low tide in packed sand. If I parked, I backed up the dune and stopped, no sudden movements.

New 4x now so bring it.

I buy 4x4s, not because I use it often. But because I have it when I need it.

Yah...., I bought a 4x4 Taco because in my opinion it is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it ;)!
