I have a 2012 dcsb. Should I undercoat my truck? A guy I work with goes and uses a rattle can undercoat from Walmart.

Never done it yet since buying the truck. Thanks

I wouldn't use any of that rubberized undercoating. Something similar to fluid film would be better.

Fluid film is like an oily coating that repels water. You reapply it every so often. Rubberized undercoating can be more harmful than good. It can trap the elements between the coating and the frame and help accelerate frame rot.

I undercoat every year. Especially my Taco, it's worth the money getting it done by a shop that does it. They spray places you can't get with a rattle can.

You want to go with something oil based too, metal is porous, and oil based undercoats will absorb into the metal and protect more than just the outside. Some places use a wax type thing that just sits on top of the metal.. It looks like it works well, but if there is anything already on the metal it'll just hold it there.

I don't know much about undercoating in the States, but Krown or RustChek are the best options around here. RustChek is awesome because it smells like cherry's.

    Hope this helps!

I had body work done a while ago after an incident with a telephone pole last winter. I will call that shop and see if they do this and go from there

Has anyone linex the under carriage before?

^ Thanks, I'm going to order a few cans of that Amsoil and coat my frame in the next few weeks, now that I just washed my truck and sprayed off a lot of the fluid film I had on there.

I wonder if using Fluid Film on top of the Amsoil HD Metal Protector after the Amsoil is already dried would cause any issues. Has anyone else ever done this?

That appears to be simply a spray-on version of the dry lube I use on my mountain bike chain. I wonder if they are recommending spraying everything from pinch-weld to pinch-weld or only certain things?

I don't know, but the Amsoil site says it displaces water the same as Fluid Film. I'm worried about it being harder to remove, and what will happen if over spray gets onto your paint with the Amsoil? Will it wipe off like the Fluid Film does?

If you can find FORMULA 3000 RUST CURE it outperforms fluid film. You can even spray this stuff on dirt and it will seep through to get to the metal. CDN military paid for a big study to find the best product and this one won from what I recall.

Doesn't ToyoCare/whatever it's called, offer something to protect the underside?

Toyota care does not include undercoating.

Rust protection should have came from the factory to avoid all of these discussions/headaches but no Auto makers want your car/trucks to corrod right a Away so you want to buy new ones as soon as possible.

For those of you who use fluid film, how often do you wash the truck/does it wash off easily?

In PA they cover the roads in salt as soon as flurries are forecast so I tend to wash the truck fairly often (weekly-ish) in the winter.

Do you have to reapply or is seasonally enough?

i sprayed some rubberized undercoating from walmart on mine and then after a few days sprayed some truck bedliner spray from walmart over the top of it. it's mainly for looks as there was some sortof grayish stuff sprayed on there already from the factory. i just made in to look black. i don't live up north either so they don't salt the roads down here when it snows.

i just sprayed the lower part of the frame in the middle of the truck under the cab. all the way from the body mounts behind the front tires back to where the leaf springs attach in front of the rear tires.

if i lived up north i think i would por 15 the entire frame as soon as i got the truck brand new. :D

maybe toyota should start dipping their frames in por 15 when they are made at the factory???
