Somewhat new to the forum, never really post but used TW heavily to work on my 1st gen. Best site around.

Anyways, selling my 2000 Prerunner to buy a lightly used 2nd Gen. If I had 40k, I'd just get the new TRDPro because it seems to be perfect for my needs (right amount of lift, suspension upgrades, capable truck). So I'm going to grab a 2012+newer DCSB 4x4 TRD OR and DIY build into the Pro by adding:

    -Eibach springs
    -5100s set at 0"
    -Toytech 1/4" spacer (drivers side)
    -5160s in the rear
    -BFG A/Ts - 265/70/R16
-I don't care about the TRD Exhaust, bead-lock wheels, or cosmetics (even though the TRDPro looks great).

A few questions regarding all this,

-Assuming my 2012+newer DCSB has the rear leaf TSB, the front should be practically level, and suspension the same as the Pro, correct?

-If no TSB, would the Wheeler's/Icon 3-leaf Progressive AAL achieve essentially the same? If so, leave overload leaf or take it out?

-Are the 5160s in the rear worth the 2x price over just 5100s?

-Also just want to hear what yall think, are there any areas I'm just being stupid, wrong, or is there a better (yet similar) way of doing this?

Take into account this will be my everyday truck, but also see off-road (trail, snow, forest, baja style use). I wont ever be rock crawling... I just want a great truck that I can drive hard and it'll take it. Thanks is advance!

Im rocking 5100's with the stock OR coils and really like the ride with them set at 1.75.

I also have a wheelers single leaf 2in aal in the rear paired with the 4 leaf (3+1) spring pack to keep some forward rake and for extra load handeling. I have OME N182 shocks in the rear for extra travel over the 5100's

IMO its not with the 5160's

Ok right, I probably misspoke a bit there. My buddies go down and ride out in the desert out west every year, that's what I meant about "baja". My b

Yeah, I'm currently riding 5100s all-around (stock coils) on my 1st gen, love the ride. Wouldn't want to preload the front though. At least on my 2000, it's stiff enough.

yeah i would say stock coils on the 2nd gen TRD OR's are good for the 1.75 setting. It made it stiffer but in a much better ride kind of way. The next setting at 2.5in with stock coils would tip it over into the too stiff of a ride catagory.

2012 Sport DCSB, 5100's on front with Toytec Eibach springs, and lean spacer, and 5100's on rear. Getting ready to install total chaos uniball UCAs.

I also have about 150lbs of bumper and winch up front also.

Still trying to decide if I want to go to 0.85 on the 5100 to get some additional rake. The 150 lbs lowered it a little.

How much rake did you get? Happy with the Wheelers?

I have a similar height front lift and was thinking about going with the Wheelers 2" AAL for the same reasons you did.

OP - I have the same suspension as the Pro, you'll love it but the back end will seem a bit low, with a bit of front end rake.

There is right at i want to say 1.5in of rake. which in my opinion is how a truck should be.

The wheelers single leaf 2in aal is bitchin. Great ride quality and much better load handeling. I never liked the progressive 3 leaf add a leafs as it seems like half of their lift was simply from the extra thickness of the 3 leafs. the 2in AAL flexes well and rides great, and is bitchin quality. I love it.

Yeah that's right around what I'm looking to get rake wise.

Thanks for the input on the single leaf 2" Wheelers AAL. I've heard some mixed reviews, but am still convinced that is my best solution to get lift and maintain ride quality.

I also don't like the the progressive leafs either. I want my leaf pack to have a flat overload - don't ask me why lol. I just like the way it looks better.

Looks great! Yep that's what im looking for.

Really, the rear will be lower? That is definitely something I want to avoid... Looking to be level, or slightly lower in front.

If I were to buy a 2012 with about 50kmiles, you think I would be able to get Toyota to do the rear leaf TSB? All the '13s I've looked at have the TSB, but are all around $28-29k.... Looking in the neighborhood of $26k. (Yes I want a 2012 or newer, like the redesigned front end).

the suspension on the TRD pro is basically the same as the one on the Baja Tacos:

Billy 5100's up front with about 1.75inches, and 5160's at the back with the TSB pack.
they have been retuned/re-valved for the Pro with a new front coil, so the off road ride is a bit better but is a fractionally stiffer on road.

it is a leveling kit, so it cancels out the little bit of rake that the truck comes with. if you want to bring the back up again (like I do you) will need to do a new leaf pack or AAL. here's the rub...
the engineers at TRD and at Bilstein say that the max the rear can be lifted with the 5160's is 1 inch (Icon AAL adds 1.5, and Dakar's about 2.75?) which technically max out the shocks.
on the other hand an "expert" I've spoken to at 4 wheel parts said they install the icons and Dakar's all day long with 5160's and never have any issues...

anyone else have any experience with this?
