Sounds like you knew about the problem from the start and still bought the truck.

It seems your gripe is with the dealer, not the truck.

You may like a Nissan dealer more, but doubt you will like the Nissan vehicle over Toyota.

Why would you buy a truck that has some hiccups before you sign the dotted line?

As far as your road trip with your family, why would you not check the car over (even if new)?

I agree that Subaru is great to deal with. I've only had good experiences with them. Bought a Subaru shortly before my Toyota for the wife. The Toyota dealership was the very typical back and forth you've described.

Sounds like a real hassle with the dealer, guess I dont blame you for hating them, but an XTERRA? Come on man!

O.P. - I wonder if they even tried to put new tires on the truck with the vibration issue? Buying a 14' at the end of the model year means it could have potentially sat on the lot for a while and developed flat spots on the tires from sitting.

Half the stuff said about the dealer sounds like par for the course in every dealership I've ever been in. What dealership doesn't try to steal your trade in, or give you the sales pitch about undercoating/paint sealer? I was out the door with my Toyota dealership with a new Tacoma in not much more than 1 hour. Granted I didn't have a trade in to negotiate though.

Issues with the dealer yes, but those are issues with the truck also. Had I known that they could not get a set of wheels and tires to balance out properly, your are right...I would have walked. I'm a reasonable guy, and thought that it was a simple re balance and that would be that.

Long and short of it is that a brand new truck did not drive like a brand new truck should. Neither the dealer or corporate could correct the situation. I could have bought a new set of wheels and tires, but I should not have to.

After them leaving the valve stem loose and leaking air, and their best tire guy not being able to diagnose the vibration until I pointed it out from the passenger seat.....I was not taking my truck back to that service department. The corporate rep was insistent that I deal with them to correct the issue.

Don't get me wrong....I'm not knocking the trucks so much. Just that I got a lemon, and compounded by a really bad dealer. I did not see any way this would work out well, and the XTera was in the list when I went vehicle shopping in the first place. Hindsight being what it is....just should have gone this route in the first place.

Lost them a sale of a FRS for my wife also. Went and got her a Hyundai Genesis Coupe Touring Edition.

Genesis is better than FRS, anyway, no harm there.

They did put on new tires, that was when they left the valve body loose in one of the stems. The tires they put on were no better that what was taken off. My thought was it was the wheels, or they balanced them on a hub centric vs a lug centric attachment. Either way, you could not get anyone there to listen.

If you look at the equipment on an XTera Pro-4x....it's like having both the off road and sport packages on a taco. We'll find out if I made a mistake in time, but I don't think so.

Just hope y'all have better luck than I did.

I have some buddies with Xterras. They can't go anywhere a Taco can. The aftermarket market isn't there. If you plan to drive off-road or even hitting mild rock crawling trails in the Xterra, good luck. Just my 2 cents.

You bought a SUV in place of a mid size truck it's apples to oranges I would not have bought a frontier not to mention it's your money. Your not hurting toyota or that dealer except for the bad review. Just to be clear I don't condone BS from the dealer or toyota I hope you enjoy your new vehicle. If I get this vibration issue I'm sure I would do the same.

Sounds like the dealer was trying to help. They had two repair attempts. I agree, they should have got it right on the second try, but you can't say they weren't at least trying. As for the wait times. We all have to remember that the world doesn't revolve around us all the time. I'm sure there were other customers there as well. Working in a service department, I see both sides of it.

    Some people are magnetic.

My Pop could have bought a brand new Rolls Royce inspected by the Queen personally and it would throw a rod the first time we headed to the beach.

He had many skills, worked as a millwright, operating engineer, nuke certified welder, cad/cam programmer when it was just getting launched.
But could simply not find a reliable car.
My mom wouldn't let him drive hers because it would go into convulsions if he got near it.

Is that in reply to my comment? A Pro4X Xterra is no match to a TRD OR. And, good luck modding an Xterra to perform like a modded Tacoma. I've seen it first hand, more than once.
