so i just recently bought a 2015 2.7l manual and after extensive looking all i can find is the 2014 spec sheet and it said the 2.7ls came with 4.10 gearing.I put 4.10s in my jeep with a 4.0l running 33s and i was curious if the same would apply to a 2.7l. would it feel about the same or does the smaller engine make a difference in gear ratio? The reason i ask is i want to run 265/75/16 but don't want it sluggish and bad like running 33s with a 3.73 gear ratio. Sorry if i didn't make much sense.

Its to make up for engine size if u go to 33's with a 2.7 id say go up to 4.56 good thing if you regear 4.10s are sought after for people going to 33's it would be an easy sell lol

ok so it is for the engine size difference. I got excited because 4.10s sounded great but wasn't sure. Do you think 32s would be that bad with out re gearing? I always hatted freeways with 33s and 3.73s in my jeep I just don't want to go through that again.

I've got 33s on my 5sp 2.7 access cab and it runs just fine. Minimal power loss honestly.

I'm running 255/85/16s and the little motor turns them over just fine.

You should be fine with MOST 32" since it is a manual. Just have to use the gears longer. (Trans gears)

I say most because once you get in to the 8 ply some tires get heavy.
You would still be ok with 8 ply but you'll notice the the difference a lot more.

are 33s 8 ply? Ive always had 33s on every truck ive owned and all seem to be slugish with the stock gearing but all except one was automatic. The manual jeep was much more tolerable with larger tires since i can pick the gear i wanted instead of fighting the automatic trans on the freeway.

also what backspacing are you guys running. I don't want the tires sticking out of the fenders . I had them sticking out a little on my other truck and the rocks just destroyed my paint.

I know all of this is online and i can search (which i have been doing) but honestly theres 6,000 different answers to my question and just like finding a straight forward answer.

I'm planning on regearing mine to 4.56. My 32s make for slow starts... i would like to go bigger eventually too.

its so hard to describe things like this. Slow to you could mean decent speed to me haha. I doubt i will go bigger that 32s since i don't go off road as much as i use to. how much of a difference did you feel jumping from stock to 32s? was it enough to notice a huge decrease in acceleration or just enough to notice a little.

    I put 265/ 75/ 16 BFG/ AT-KO's on my '14, 2.7, DC. My truck is a PreRunner so probably about same weight as an AC, 4x4, 2.7 ??

Anyway, you definitely can feel the extra weight and rotating mass and my MPPG's took a big hit, but eff-it I like the look. I just did a job 82 miles away this past week with the new tires. When I was on stock rubber, my truck would do the exact same trip and return 25 mpg hwy. The same trip this past week with new tires returned 21 mpg's.

You'll lose about 2 mpg with 32s. I just downshift into 3rd and wind it up to 4.5 k when I want to go 70 up steep grades. I haven't noticed any loss in power.

I certainly noticed it. It made my 5th gear almost obsolete. I'm a 4x4 sr5 access cab if that makes any difference in weight. I still love the motor though! Just geared too tall from the factory.

Agree I love the 2.7 as well, but the auto is geared way to tall in in 2nd & 3rd. When you really need to knuckle down, there is plenty of gusto if you are willing to wind it out.

I've got 265/70/17's on my 13. There is a little bit of powerless, but its pretty minor. Didn't weigh the tires/rims, so I can't attest to weight and/or size being the primary driver.

You notice it on a drive or two, then forget it.

Not bad. Still getting 20-19 highway a a solid 19 in town.

I got the maxxis bighorns and they don't sing too bad and drive great at highway speeds. Actually just got back last night from a week and a half 2900 mile road trip and they did great

One helping factor in my situation, was that my aftermarket wheels weighed in at about 1/2 the weight of my OEM steel wheels. Couldn't imagine running my 265/75's on the stock steel wheels, with the 2.7 LOL.

I had 265/75-16 load range E mud tires on steel wheels. Felt the same as stock wheels and tires and only lost 1 maybe 2 mpg. Went with 285/75-16 of the same style tire but with aluminum wheels and lost a small amout of power on long steep hills but I'm still averaging 20.5 to 21 mpg. 2013 2.7 5 speed access cab 4x4 stock gearing. I also have About 200 extra pounds from skids, sliders and a full size spare. Not saying your results will be the same I'm just throwing what I've noticed out there.

I actually decided when these stockers wear down im getting some 265/75/16 BFG A/T and level it out a little. From research it seems like thats a good size with stock gearing.

what are these bilstein 5100s i keep hearing about is it an adjustable shock or what? Just trying to get general knowledge about this truck.
