I have been trying to search for the forum to see if anyone has experienced this issue, but maybe I'm using the wrong buzz words. When the rear doors are opened all the way, usually they lock or latch or catch on something that keeps the doors open (so the wind doesn't blow the doors shut, etc). Well both of my rear doors on my Tacoma have this functionality broken and I'm assuming it must be a common problem being that it broke on both sides.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what the issue is? Trying to get this resolved because my kids keep getting the door closing on their poor limbs. Any help would be much appreciated.

Pretty sure they're just held open by friction on the door hinge, not a separate device just for the purpose. Maybe the doors are starting to sag or come out of alignment?

Really? Always seemed like it hit a certain point where it would lock open. Everything else seems pretty lined up with no known issues.

Here is that piece. From the drag marks evident on the surface of mine would leave me to think it's a friction piece and not mechanical. What does yours look like?

Ah, got ya. I attached a pic of mine. So what is apply the friction onto that bar? Is it adjustable?

This friction piece that I should replace, does anyone by any chance have a part number or even better, a schematic so I know how to get to the part?

3 months and no fix?

Why not run to a dealer and have the parts counter tell you what you need?

I have a plan to run to the dealership on Saturday. I just have had bad experiences with my local dealer so I've been avoiding it.

Thanks for the response, landphil. I've done a search and not sure how I didn't see this. Apparently your searching ability trumps mine. Thank you!

How about spreading those 2 metal strips with a WIDE screwdriver ... give them a good turn and bend them further apart?????

I'll look at mine, but I think that might work.... just depends upon where the point of friction is....

Check it out ... maybe an easy fix...

I may take a look at it this weekend. Do you think this can be done without taking the door panel apart? I haven't looked at it too hard yet.

I took a quick peek at it today.... I think your can remove that part easily from the door.... examine it and likely just bend a portion of it?... Not really sure, but I'd try that first.... At least remove it and look.... and then go from there.... maybe there is a broken plastic part...I hope not, but you never know..
