Hey, I wanted to discuss something that was bothering me a little. Just today I noticed my hankook dynapro ATMs were choppy but it only seems to be on the right rear. I got the tires used and I didn't really check to see if they were like that before. I think it's just because I didn't balance it correctly, could this be the problem or what else could be the problem. Thanks!

They are all at 34 psi should I knock that down a bit? And I must say holy s**t that was a quick response haha I also should add it's more on the outer edge and when you run your hand across it you can feel it is bumpy

Chalk test your tires first, then check the suspension:

Unless you have stock tires you cannot rely on the sticker in the door. To find out the correct inflation for your truck you must 'chalk test' the tires.

1. Inflate all tires to 35psi. (Start high. You can always let some air out if needed)
2. Go to a large parking lot where you have at least 300 feet of open pavement.
3. Using ordinary, children's sidewalk chalk, draw a 1" wide line across your tread on one of your front and rear tires.
4. Drive in a straight line for 300 feet.

How's it wearing? Is it worn off in the middle but not on the sides?

If so, you are overinflated. Lower the pressure to 32psi and try it again. Keep repeating the process until it's worn evenly across the entire tread.

Is it worn on the sides but not in the middle? You're underinflated. Add a couple of pounds and try it again. You get the idea...

Our trucks are not very heavy, and they are lighter in the rear than in the front, so your front tires will probably take more than the rears. My truck has Goodyear Duratrac's on it and I found that 30psi in the front and 26psi in the rear is just right. I would be surprised if you need more than 30psi in any of your tires....

I saw that, thanks I am going to are them down a bit, and maybe rebalance that tire.

Problem i see with the chalk test is its not at speed and can often yeild too low for hwy speed pressures.

TIRE PRESSURE FIRST! alignment check is a good idea-I use the hand test first.
Drive it a while -test it with your hand to see where the heat is the warmest-Good EASY First check.

Cupping
Cups or scalloped dips appearing around the edge of the tread on one side or the other, almost always indicate worn (sometimes bent) suspension parts. Adjustment of wheel alignment alone will seldom cure the problem. Any worn component that connects the wheel to the car (ball joint, wheel bearing, shock absorber, springs, bushings, etc.) can cause this condition. Worn components should be replaced with new ones. The worn tire should be balanced and possibly moved to a different location on the car. Occasionally, wheels that are out of balance will wear like this, but wheel imbalance usually shows up as bald spots between the outside edges and center of the tread.

To be honest my truck is brand new (less than 5k on it) I am guessing it was from the previous owner. Sorry for the confusion on choppy and cupping but they are both the same for me  I might just rebalance all four if I ever get a chance at work or just that one. Thanks for all the replies and I love how TWF members help out so quickly... Thanks

I've seen it caused by cornering too fast if its in the outside of the tires. just a thought....

Then adjust for it. It's a whole lot better than guessing!...

Your right rear is the drive tire, so it gets the most abuse (usually). As far as the wear, that's fairly normal for Asian trucks as far as I've seen working at Discount Tire. Regular rotation is the best solution for the problem unless the Dynapro's are just prone to irregular wear.
