Hauling with Wheelers progressive HD 3 leaf AAL

So a few months back when I was researching what suspension lift to get I couldn't find much on hauling with Wheelers progressive HD 3 leaf AAL so now that I have it I thought I would share.

I installed Billies 5100 all around, front set to 1.75 and have the Wheelers HD 3 leaf pack on non-tsb springs with the overload removed. Initially the truck sat with a bit of a rake but now that I have hauled a loads with it it has settled, still has a slight rake though. I was hauling half yards of crushed rock which according to the internet is about 1300# of material. The truck did quite well with the new leafs added. I was not riding on the bump stops and it handled decent for so much weight, given I didn't drive very far and wasn't going that fast.

 

I have the same setup. When I hauled 1/2 yArd my rear end sunk. I am glad you got different results.

 

Looking at the first pic, I'm hoping you still have 1300lbs of stuff in the bed. That there be a bro lean, not rake.

 

How bad did your rear squat? mine sank but not to the point where it sat on the bump stops like it would if I had just the oem leafs.

Yeah I didn't have a before pic to post, the first pic is with the 1300# in the bed.

 

That is a pretty good squat for 1300lbs...I have the TBS rear springs and they do about the same under load. I understand the rest of the world gets a HiLux with a 3500lb load limit and we get a Tacoma with 1400lb load limit, and a better tow rating.

Do our Taco's have the same rear axle as the HiLux with the 3500lb load rating?

OP, how often are you towing/hauling that much weight? The issue/cause is that the stock leafs are really weak and, frankly, sh!tty. Might want to look into full leaf replacement. Dakars with the additional

$81 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL leaf is what I would suggest if you haul/tow that much weight that often.

 

That's a bit generous. Toyota's site says an AC is 1360 and DCSB is 1280. You'll find the actual payload to be less depending on options (looking at sticker inside driver's side door jam). For example, mine is 1080lbs.

 

I don't haul very often, once in a while if I'm doing work around the house. I'm actually quite happy with the results of the aal

My Wheelers Progressive AAL is scheduled to be at my door on Wednesday. I didn't get the HD ones though. Went with the standard pack and I'm going to leave my overload on (non-tsb springs). Also got the Billies to put all the way around. Pretty excited about it. I'm not planning on hauling or towing anything that significant, but it's nice to know the products are performing for you in case I do ever put a large load in the back. Thanks for the info!

 

I put the same progressive HD 3 leaf AAL on none tsb springs but I left the overload in. the truck had a lot of rake until I put boss front coils in. little rake but but does sag a little when I put my travel trailer on. was thinking about airbags just to level when I do tow.
