Went out to the truck early this evening to find my truck out of gas (Gas Light was on). Knew immediately something was not right (Had not driven since early Sunday Morning with well over 1/2 tank left in there).

Saw that the door was slightly opened and the gas cap was completely unscrew. Grabbed some gas from the garage only to hear it dripping out the bottom.. Thought to myself "NO WAY"...

Sure enough, the bastards drilled a hole in my tank.. WTF!!

So as of now the insurance has been called and am waiting too file a police report..

Question, any reviews from people with gas tank armor? Something that will protect the bottom and maybe the sides? Maybe something other than the soft cheap plastic the tank was originally made from.. Thanks!

Wow, what a piss off, total inconvenience for some asshole stealing a few gallons of gas. Now you have to replace the entire tank. sorry for the misfortune.

We sell gas tank skids made from steel. Probably wouldn't stop all theives but certainly a good deterant for 90% of tweekers. Might help convince them to move onto the next vehicle.

    Thanks Tyler!

Right! Take the gas.. I'm pissed but what ever.. They drilled a hole in the tank, that's just a pure violation! Was out $40-$50.. Now out $500 for my insurance deductible, plus no vehicle for a couple days.. SOO MAD right now..

    Unreal!!

Like my Dad always says- "It'd be a wonderful world if it wasn't for the damn people."

or as Sartre wrote- "Hell is other people." (although others differ to this interpretation)

I bet Tyler could custom make something with sides protection, not sure it's worth it though.

I had nightmare last year driving company van into gas station. It was a busy spot, that worked on cars as well, so cars all over the place in various stages of undress. Get out, start the pump, and head for the windshield as i have done for a thousand years. Three min go by, and a man comes screaming out of the garage, shutting off the pump as gas started to flow past me feet.

We have anti-theft deterrents at the gas cap, but what they did was to cut the rubber hose that made the transition from the fill tube to the tank. Very close call.

They amaze me that for $15 to thirty bucks they will destroy $200 to 500 piece of equipment. I all in favor of treating it the same as they did for horse thieves.

I thought about that or something like JB Weld. But it's not a scratch, it's a hole.. Don't know how gas would react to it.. Thinking it might just eat it away..

I thought I read something about this happening before and someone suggesting putting fiberglass cloth or something like that between the tank and the skid to get tangled up in the drill bit and bind it up. No idea if that would work or if I even remember the comment correctly. People suck.

It maybe worth the try.. But in the long run, It will need to be professionally repaired or replaced.

My fear is being out in the desert here and getting a leak at the worst possible time.. Not something I am really willing to chance.

That's the kind of review/input I need. Looked at the link you had.. Looks great! Maybe it's just me, but can the armor be extended and flanged up? Make it more of a "pain in the ass" to thieves?

I hear you. Just thinking in rational way to protect it.. But maybe there is something out there for this kind of product..

I have always had the moto of "If someone wants to steel something from you, they will find away to do it"..

But after this I want to protect it (As I'm cleaning and oiling my gun)..

I wonder if some chainsaw protection chaps would fit between the skid plate and tank. That might stop a drill or slow them down even more. I think most are made of Kevlar, I do not know if one can buy Kevlar in sheets or off a roll.
