I drive a Land Rover discovery 2004. I have decided on a 4x4 dcabsb for a overland rig yet my DEALER keeps steering me to a long bed. what are thew pros and cons of long vs. short bed ?

Do you want a full size bed 6ft or a short bed 5ft?

That's it. I have a double can short bed, and there has been super plenty of times I wish I forked out the extra $ and got the 6ft bed. The 1ft makes a different if you carry things in the on a regular or occasionally.

    Long bed:

Pro - extra foot of bed length, so if you use the bed alot, would come in handy

Con - wider turning radius, takes up more room in parking spaces, may not fit in garage?

I have the short bed and love it, unless you have a need for the longer bed, the short bed is fine

Is the dealer pushing you to a long bed because that is all he has?

I got a DCLB because I like having that extra foot just in case I need to haul a lot of stuff and I like the look of it more.

If you are set on getting a DCSB then I'd go with that and not let the dealer sway you over. He is probably trying to get you to buy a DCLB for his personal gain

Sorry but a dealer should NEVER be pushing your decision on a car/ truck purchase. There job is to take your money to the desk clerk, and take the window sticker off the glass before you leave.

Anyway, unless you are a contractor, the 6' box is overkill in this class of truck. More difficult to park, wider turning radius, may not fit in a standard garage.

DCSB hereI rarely haul stuff and when I do it sticks out a little no big deal.

The shortbed is fine for hauling most things. I can fit a motorcycle in the bed with the tailgate down. I also like the look of the shortbed better.

DCSB I love it sometimes I wish I had the long bed but first i cant stand the look of a dclb. if it was access cab then ok but not on a double Also I am not sure if wheel base if effected between the two but if it is wouldnt you want a shorter wheel base for an overland mv. easier to get over stuff. I dont offroad much around here so correct me if i am wrong. On the time I wish i had a long bed which would be to carry my motorcycle i jsut think borrow a buddies trailer cuz my bike is 700 pound and almost 7ft long wouldnt want to put it up there anyways

I have a doublecab with short bed and it deffinatley has limitations, when i have the cap on i cAnt even fit fishing rods, that being said its never really been an issue ive even slept back there comfortably. One of the first things i did after buying the truck was get some nice strong tie down rope and with that an some imagination you can pretty much do anything.

I like my DCLB and think the 6 ft bed is much more useful than the 5 ft. I actually was dead set on a DCSB TRD Off Road...until I realized the DCLB existed. To me, that was more important than a locker.

That said, it is surprising how much maneuverability you lose with the extra wheelbase. While I have no problem even parallel parking my truck, if someone else drives it it's apparent they aren't used to it for at least a few miles.

As mentioned above, always be on guard when a dealer tries to influence your decision. It's usually for his benefit, not yours. Do your homework and know what you want before hitting the door.

If it does not matter to you or if you want the SB but do not mind the LB then negotiate your best deal then tell them you want the price difference taken off the price of the truck. You can also get the bed extender for the SB. Not the same as the LB but a decent compromise.

Ok, overland. Are you going to want to sleep in the bed? If so get the LB.

A 6' box overkill? It's a TRUCK. Short bed trucks looks so weird to me, like they slapped a short bed on the back of a 4runner.

OP who cares what the dealer thinks you should buy, buy what you want to buy.

    LB bro.

If dudes like their short beds because of looks, more power to them. I bought the LB because I like they way it looks too and the increased carrying capacity. But the talk of increased turning circle ( we are talking 4 feet) and all the rest, shouldnt push you one way or another.

Also this talk of buying a trailer , or putting the tail gate down when you want to carry something large is crazy talk !
